Glad I found this tek. Seems easy enough to follow. Spent a good while reading through the whole thread. Planning on starting my first grow next month. Going with brf cakes as I have no pressure cooker at the moment. Question... After the cakes are ready, do I have to dunk and roll or just dunk or just go straight ahead and grate them up and put into the shoe box?

Just grate them up ...dunk and roll in vermiculite is just to maintain good surface conditions for pinning Good luck!

Might want to rehydrate them before grating . But not sure myself . Someone should chime in on the dunking part.

You can do either it dosnt matter. Dunking the first makes them slightly easier to grate but more of a slippery mess.

Gonna be trying this out soon!
I think the field capacity might have been where I fucked up in the past, I'm going to do hand pick the coir from now on for smaller batches.

So things are progressing but some have broken the veil. They are rather small but dense. Should I let them go longer and hope they push the lid up and get bigger?

I wouldn’t let them go more than another maybe 12 hours unless you don’t mind spores. They don’t usually seem to get much bigger ime anyway, besides the cap curling.

I figured as much. Will selectively harvest them, but was hoping for a canopy

Ok well , first let me say that I noticed this shoebox I used is wider and longer than the ones in this tek. I have since purchased the correct ones. So the 10 shrooms I picked last night dried to 2.8 grams. Harvested everything today with 178 grams wet. So I will have plenty for microdose. The substrate is soaking now for round two!

I noticed that all of the shrooms had like a fuzzy skirt at the base of each one . And that one pictured has that strange dot on its cap. Anyone ever seen anything like that ?

Have another question. I'm in a plastic shop now and wondering what size box to get. There's a 6 litre and 8 litre... what size should I get if I'm following these measurements for this tek?
Edit. Went ahead and bought 3 x 8L. Now, looking at Shapers photos, my boxes look a little too big. Will get some smaller ones and experiment with side by side grows... well... if I get passed the spawning stage at least. Lol.

The fuzz is fine just myc, peel it off or it’ll prob disappear in the dehydrator.
The exact size isn’t important it should work the same way.
Good job man that shoebox looks good.

If you pasteurized the coir properly as get the field capacity right ,you should have no issues

Pastuerizing doesnt have anything to do with field capacity and you dont pasteurize coir anyway.

You misinterpreted what I said. Preparing coir with lukewarm tap water vs boiling water is killing Nefarious bacteria to allow the spawn to take hold of the substrate before bacterial infections have a chance to ruin your substrate and spawn. Field capacity.. or just under field capacity as shaper’s tech states, is important for reducing side pins in the shoebox. I meant if you do both properly.. someone should have no issues with failure if done properly

Quick update. 5 days ago I did set up those two boxes..

Now they look like this:
. .
I misted slightly yesterday (a spay or two per box, right onto the sub and into the lid), as the sub looked too dry for me. I have very low humidity in my room!
What do you think, does it look good?

Looking real good - just don't go crazy with the misting.
Very easy to overdo it (I do it more than I'd like ). If you are following this TEK closely with the correct field capacity you might not need to mist at all before the first flush is harvested - but that also depends on where you live and what is the relative humidity of the environment & how much FAE gets in your box.

Yeah, I'll leave it as it is and wait for pins.
