Looks good to me man!
Probably around day 10 from spawning to bulk.

Keep that thing closed and let it do its thing. 💯🤟🏼

Edit: Here is a few pics from harvest last weekend.
Can’t remember the exact weight but it was over 2.5 oz dry.

Beautiful harvest!!!

How many days did it take for your pins to show up??

I’m at 16 days right meow

Also, I’m running two different agar cultures. One of them has ~3mm of shrinkage b/w the sub and the tub, and the other doesn’t have any... any thoughts on that?

Thanks. 14 days for me to see pins.
And shrinkage is normal. I’ve never had a box that doesn’t shrink.

I just finished harvesting my first shoebox flush (32g dry), and soaked the substrate for 3 hours. However, after soaking I ran into some issues and wanted to see if you all think they’re actually problems or not.

First off, while soaking I accidentally broke the substrate into three pieces... I was using water-filled quart jars to hold the substrate under water, and unfortunately half of it floated up and broke while I was adding the second jar. I figure this isn’t a big deal, but just wanted to be sure. Second, after the three hour soak my substrate is soaking wet (like WAY pst field capacity). Should I press it at all to drain some of the excess water off?

No matter what happens, don't press your sub to remove water. Compressing it will only damage the myc. Obviously that's not an issue, as it will just grow back. Just like when we shake grain jars. My concern here though, would be damaging the pinning surfaces. Once the knots have formed you'd likely just crush them, and potentially have a longer time before you see your next pins.

Secondly, I have made A LOT of shoe boxes. As a result of numbers and chances, I have also broken a lot of subs. Some cracked. Some in half. I had one break into as many as 8 pieces.
Don't be concerned with the sub breaking. You'll still get a second flush, no problem. I usually kind of throw them back in the tub until it looks like a rectangle again. Then boom. It grows (mostly) right back together, but with a couple battle scars.

I have soaked them for as little as an hour, still got 4 to 5 flushes. I have forgotten about them and they soaked for a day and a half. Still got 4 to 5 flushes. The soak time only really makes minute differences in your results. For when you're good, but you just wanna be a bit gooder at it.

The only way you can really mess up is to no have enough water in the sub. to support the fruits, or pinning. If you feel that your sub is too wet, and maybe in your environment you don't have much air flow or things tend to stay moist for longer periods, then then the thing to do in my opinion is to just hold off on misting and let it sort itself out for the next few days. Also, if you are really concerned about excess hydration just take the lid (or dub tub) off for a few hours at a time. It'll dry up in no time. You're also likely to get a better pin set.

OH! and next time you soak your sub between flushes, instead of using jars to hold the sub beneath the water, try something different.
What I do is pour some water directly (slowly and gently) on top of the sub, then slowly pour water around the side until it comes up just to ALMOST the surface of the subs. The water on top of the sub is usually enough to hold the sub down. It works very well for me, and also uses a bit less water in the long run. Just be careful when moving the box. If the water comes off of the top, it'll start to float again.

Just curious, did you let those grow on that table outside? Or did you just harvest them there? Or was the lighting just better for pictures?

It’s a little slow for 18 days and the second pic looked a little on the wet side but other then that they look good. Keep us updated :super:

Shoe box update!!!

So far its kicking ass! Only downside is i used MS so the pins all mature and different rates, like I've harvested 3 times and only got about 5 dry grams because of the slower maturity rate from my MS they dont all mature at once so my flushes are technically really small but getting alot of them!!!

Hello guys,

Very pleased to say the shoebox I asked advice on came out really well. Very grateful for this tek Shaper it worked brilliantly, for a first initiation into growing I am happy with the results. The harvest was 310 grams wet

I harvested some yesterday and a second amount today as some veils were breaking quicker than others. I do have question as there are some small fruits still progressing as you can see from the picture, do I just put the lid back on and wait for them to reach potential, harvest again then rehydrate? Or pick them all now and begin rehydrating  even though there are tiny pins still coming?

I hope that makes sense.

Much appreciated

I'm not sure how others do it but ive been dunking even with the little pins, granted mine is kinda like yours also where one little group matures then another little group, etc

I tend to just harvest everything of "harvest size" (anything larger than about an inch) all at once, but honestly there's no best way. I've found that when I don't harvest them all at the same time usually the shock of the hydration tends to make them abort. So, do whatever works best!

Also, awesome haul! If you're using the same rates and volumes that's over 1oz per quart of spawn! Great work!

Just wondering how big were those shoeboxes? I'm currently using 6L ones and the substrates probably 3.5 inches deep, not sure how deep is too much, if it is I may just get a couple 10L even.

With these 6L shoeboxes, only 1.5qt of spawn and 3qt coir were used, so may need to upgrade, just want to hear what everyone has to say as I'd love to get this fine-tuned so I can finally begin properly.

Thanks!

One "issue" I'm having with these is that I get a lot of fruit... but they're flippin tiny.  Like, the largest ones barely scratch 3/4 inch across when fully opened.

Using a quart of oats and 1.5 quarts coir with a thin, moist coir top layer.  I did the same with some shredded BRF cakes and the same thing happened, loads and loads of little fruit.

What up with that?

Perhaps a mix of genetics and water content? I've ran into the same thing and found that after dunking they always seem to grow bigger, granted thats just my experience

6qt is a shoebox. Ideal is typically about 3" depth, but being a bit over isn't that detrimental. It's more a guide of how much surface area you can cover with a given amount of spawn & bulk and still get a decent, full flush. This info is more useful with larger tubs, shoeboxes are pretty much worked out to take 2qts of grain spawn or 4 cakes for good results.
