Any experienced forum surfers care to comment on the attached? First signs of the white speckles (primordia I presume) showed up about a week ago. Curious if there are any apparent issues that might be stalling the fruiting process or if patience might be the issue.

That sub looks dry. No idea if that's why though.

Can anybody tell me what I would have to change if I used these shoeboxes for this tek? The ones used in this tek have latches and the ones I found (much cheaper) are just static and grey, not see through. Much appreciated!

Those are the standard box many of us are using. Change nothing,  the boxes get enough FAE. "Unclick" the little clips at the edge of the box when they get tall so they can push the cover up.

If you're growing a tall variety that pushes the lid up too soon, then you can dubbtub or put a shopping bag with holes over the top.

Unless I missed something when looking at the boxes I linked, I don't think they have clips at each end. That's why I was asking what I should do, because I'm guessing the ones with clips still get FAE when clipped, but these ones that I linked look like they fully seal and maybe don't get any FAE. Also if using shopping bags, would you recommend putting the bag on right away at spawn and how big/how many holes would you recommend placing in it? Thanks!

I use Sterilite boxes from Walmart. They have a white top but otherwise look the same. They do not clip very tight and I get a lot of air exchange with them.

first flush, pretty disappointed tbh .....lol.

put a lot of work into it.

GT MS to BRF to coir 1:1  99%rh 71F

looks like I have a bunch more pins forming, are these still first flush pins?

You can't see the clips. The lid sorta clicks on at the ends by pressing down to lock. You unclick those. When you have your hands on the box you will be able to understand what I mean.

The sterilite 1642xxx(different digits for x represent lid color) is the standard box, trust me, there are teks that list it by name. Also what I have a few of in my closet. I also have the same one with a white lid. They work.

If you are gonna use bags, Bod's tek says to put them  on right away.

Started this shoebox like 4 days ago from 1 pint of wbs golden teacher, looks like it is coming on pretty quick considering the temp has been pretty low 65-70 degrees. Is it really that bad to crack the lid open for a picture?

Opening the tub is fine assuming it was prepped right and spawn was clean. Once the grain is colonized it’s pretty invincible from what I’ve been told.

That myc looks good so far.

Those temps are good, I’ve fruited as low as 50f no problem. Around 68 is my preferred zone though. Takes an extra day or two but the fruits are nice and solid, plus contams seem to have a really tough time below like 70.

I just started messing around with wbs, the myc  looks a lot better than it did when i used brf as spawn

Can someone please explain why this tek has a sufficient amount of FAE with no holes or anything?
Is it something to do with how small the chamber is?
I only have experience with cakes in a SGFC and I was led to believe a LOT of FAE is required for good conditions, hence the ten million holes.

Looking at these makes me think the fruits would be suffocating based on what i thought I knew about FAE.

The lid isn’t air tight and the surface of the sub is very close to the lid. Short walled tubs like these and under beds do well with no extra fae.

This might have something to do with the nutrient density or just the overall density of a brf/verm cake vs a coir based substrate. Cakes seem way harder and denser than bulk subs to me, and I thought I read on here that brf cakes are slightly over-nutritious, which is why they need the consolidation period.

People also get results without a SGFC. Look up humidity chamber and water tub. Those don't have anywhere near the number of holes a SGFC has.

Nutrient density isn't a factor in fae. They're unrelated. You can run any spawn like this.

So I guess whoever came up with the SGFC and the monotub was just overthinking things?

Because they both seem overly complicated compared to this.

No actually at the time sgfc was an innovation. People were doing aquariums with pumps and stuff for cakes. The sgfc took a lot of complexity away and made it need minimum maintenance.

I'm not positive on the history of the mono, but I'm sure they got popular and are still used cause it's good and simple. Running everything unmodded is a little more recent and even though it does work, mono's allow more fine tuning and run things like exotics better.
