Ok thanks. But what to do now? Do I flip them over?

I don't. I let them grow out and harvest. They are still mushrooms.

If ever you have any extra prints of those you’d like to donate to another set of shroomerites, I’d LOVE to be on the list - they’re AWESOME looking!

Thanks for the awesome tek, shaper!

Question for when you have a chance:

If someone had 3 pints of brf cakes, which would be better- splitting them up into 2 six quart shoeboxes, or combining them both into one 6 qt shoebox?

I have a pile of 650g bricks and 54qt monos. Should I hydrate the entire 650g brick (per Bod’s tek) to under field capacity, and then add a casing layer on top?

Or should I break off 100g from the brick, hydrate the 550g, then use the 100g as the casing layer? I'm not even sure if 100g would be enough for a casing layer over the mono's surface area.

For the coir destined to become the casing layer...do you start soaking it the same time as the 550g, but in a separate container with more water? Then lay it on top and mist it even more?

Sorry, was on vacation! You would make it all at once, then just use the main part to mix, add the rest at the end. The way you're talking would make it much more tedious, and go against my methodology!

Honestly, since I've not done this with a large size yet I would take the hydrated coir and scoop some pints/quarts into the bin one at a time, and spread it out until I hit a nice light 1/4" layer then set that aside and just mix the rest all up and put that top layer back on at the end. Don't get hung up on quite such specifics, this is meant to be uncomplicated.

How'd you end up doing it?

I'd do 2 shoeboxes. Per box: 1.5pt spawn, 1.5pt coir mixed with spawn, 1pt top coat per the tek. And, yeah, these are approximates too, since the shredding process isn't going to leave you with easily measured halves.

That's ok, never be sorry about that!

I hydrated all at once, just set some aside for the casing layer, cased it, misted it, now just waiting. I know this is supposed to not be complicated, but I tend to overthink things .

Sounds like I wasn't needed  Can't wait to see how this goes over for monotubs (my hunch is exactly the same )

Here's some of that set-n-forget in action.
Spawned these 21 days ago,and left to fend for themselves.NO PEEKING!:uhoh:
My APE culture likes to pin around 18-21 days,so I went to take a look.

Also had this tester box of "APE Wednesday"(spore print from a Not-APE) that started to pin as well.

Just follow the tek to set these shoeboxes up,and leave them alone.:super:
Thanks for writing this up ShaperD!:highfive1:

Killing it there MushroomNate! Love them apes you grow, can't wait to see how they finalize. I too will soon be putting some APE to grains, so I'm hoping mine come up just as beautiful.

I started documenting another box grow using this method to show what a much faster grow looks like with a culture I'm more familiar with. I'm also going to update the first post with these, but this grow was 19 days long, even with lower than average temps (temp range from 65f-71f, usually in the 68f range for the majority of the grow). I used 2 pints (1 quart) of a PE6 clone that I've been working on, with 1:1.5 ratio using the tek methodology:

6-4: Spawn

6-9: 5 day check-in. Excellent rhyzo growth poking through and holding that moisture on the surface already.

6-12: 8 day check-in. Apologies again for the redlight. It kinda takes over my house on cloudy days like this. Anyways, solid increased rhyzo growth which really shows off the surface conditions.

6-17: 2 week check-in. Holy shit we have pins already! Damn. That was fast. Still, holding sexy surface conditions if you look between that dense pin-set.

6-21: 17 days in. We've got decent sized baby shroomies! Also, looking past these clusters the surface is still holding that moisture. If anything what I'm seeing is that this substrate may have even been a little too wet as I'm getting signs on the caps of excess moisture (dark spots and pumpkin-like shaping of the caps)

6-23: Harvest. I unsnapped the lid the morning of the 22nd and the shrooms did their thing pushing it up and lifting. Nice dense canopy. 365g wet harvest.

Overall a major success. I wanted to document this to show off the tek with a culture I knew better so that people could get a feel that different varieties grow at different rates. I swear, I'm done documenting grows like this for this thread though, they all kinda go like this, almost like clock work. I guess the point that I'm really focusing on is that these shoe-boxes have everything they need to get through a full first flush.

No worries, as long as this is helping people, I'm not going to get hung up on stuff like that, but I appreciate other members pointing this out.

I hope all your grows are going well. Anyone have any updated images?
