Newbie To Mushys In Adelaide/South Australia

Hello. My name is OB. I'm from South Australia and have caught Mushy Fever. I'm looking to go hunting in the next few weeks with a mate and while he has more experience and knowledge than me. I was here to pick up some basics Hopefully Before the Gatekeepers on the forums here shoot my hopes and dreams out of the sky. Edit- Too late

I know that Mushys grow in the wet season around (can't tell you) down here in South Australia and that some grow on Cow droppings and others inside of pine and eucalyptus forests in shaded and humid areas.
Is it better to scour a cow field and look for Cow pies with mushrooms growing out of it? or is it a better idea to hike through a Forrest and search for them in the under brush and on tree trunks where fungi can usually be found? If you know any sneaky spots that you've come to rely on more to find mushys like under dead trees or by a river or in mossy gullys or anything Id be very thankful for any advice.

Ok fair enough. Guess Ill edit it down then. I did read the original rules prompted when signing up but didn't read the actual post about them in this thread. But to clarify, by following the rules I cant mention or ask about the weather, what mushrooms can be found, current finds, when or where, or requesting and/or revealing specific locations. so pretty much everything and anything about mushrooms that i'd need to find and identify them as a Mushy Noob. I suppose I'm expected to search and analyse countless pages of other peoples ramblings just to get even a basic understanding of what I'm looking for and piece it together myself.

I understand that there is a section on "What mushrooms grow in my area" but to someone new just listing all the different varieties in a shopping list isn't helpful in the slightest. The same can be said about the rules telling me to "Go outside and look for myself" with no knowledge or experience. This is sort of what I meant by "Gate Keeping" There are a lot of posts and discussions about the very topic I'm asking about on this forum that have been disreguarded, denounced and condescended on. I don't really understand what the point of the "Hunting" thread would be for if not for gathering and pooling information to go hunting. There seems to be a fair amount of "Hush hush" going on here and a focus more on who has the prettiest picture of mushrooms for the monthly contest and personal cultivation than actual wild mushroom picking. It seems maybe I've come to the wrong place.

liberty cap is also easy to id check what grows in your area and do lots of research and look at lots of pictures of what your after.
look for blue bruising and take spore print if you can and always check with someone who knows there shit. don't eat if you don't know.
I've found this site to be the best place for that, in fact this site is the best one on the net :thumbup:

An update if anyone was interested lmao.

I figured the best way to gain experience and knowledge on hunting was just to get my boots on the ground and not to get discouraged. Me and my mate went out 2 weeks ago on the satdey after a solid week of rain for about 7 hours up in the mount lofty area. We saw a load of mushrooms but none were anything like Subs. I happened to spot some good Look-a-likes right at the end of our hunt literally right at our feet. Unfortunately they turned out to be "deathcaps" when we had them Identified lmao.

We're going out again soon and I did actually do some deep diving on the forums here and I have a pretty good idea where and what im looking for now. Thankyou for the Links, I've given them a good read. I apologise for sounding a little salty in my past posts and hope to find some gold next trip with my new found knowledge.
