Not sure exactly what you mean, what do you think is mold? It's hard to tell from that picture, I can see some healthy myc in there, was this a clone or agar to agar transfer? It seems like there's a pretty big mass in the middle that the myc is growing off of, it kind of looks like there may be some bacteria in the middle or something possibly.

Guess I wasn't sure if the growth was all myc or only the rhizo was

It looks like mycelium all around the blob in the middle, how big was the transfer you took out of the previous dish? I try to take transfers no bigger than a dry grain of rice. Pretty sure I got that from RR sometime back.

Bacteria. Best bet is to take a very very small transfer from the edge of the one ropey growth you have.

Take a sample between 8 and 9 from that nice sector.

It's not a toss imo just make sure you take the edge from between 8 and 9 like said above. specifically where the rhizo quicker growth is. It's out running the bacteria there.

I wouldn't toss it, take a transfer from that rhizo growth, one main reason we do agar is to clean up cultures. if you have a flow hood don't take these transfers infront of it, just use a s.a.b, or even just a clear garbage bag.

Professor x you're wrong that sector still consists of lots of strains no where near an isolate  .. that plate is fine man dont worry how many transfer are you from the original plate ??

Ok it looks like Ms to me ? If so that's why you have so many crazy growth patterns you have tons of strains fighting on that plate Haha.. dont stress on it just keep transferring the best looking edges and keep on rolling

It was an old tissue sample to agar, then I think I transferred it once, maybe twice, can't remember

Its been sitting in my fridge for about a year now :lol:

I just got some some prints of RW recently and I have some other tissue samples starting to grow on agar and about 4 more of these old plates pulled out, i plan to transfer all of them over the next couple weeks or so as they begin growing out

For sure thats cool it's still viable after a year .. usually you see that off shoot growth from Ms more then clones but clones will push like that as well sometimes also .. man searching for clones is a pain huh??

Im just sick of having jars that everyone tells me are bacterial

And these last ones seem to have wet grains and wet spots

Thinking of switching from WBS and trying oats

Sucks

Hoping agar just helps give me some clean spawn for once

Maybe i've never seen clean spawn in my life before

Well alot of times people assume its bacterial and it's not.. it's possible your grain is just too wet which doesnt always mean bacterial just too wet ..


Dude I use wheat and its bomb .. I'd steer you to that over oats I used oats for about a year and went to wheat I have tries other shit and still wheat is number 1 in my book

I soak mine for 24 hours then allow them to dry on the outside load and PC for 2 hours 10 minutes .. by water comes out at 150 degrees at the tap so I fill with hot water ..

Some people boil from 15 to 30 minutes i just cook alot of grain at once and dont feel like simmering 50#s Haha..

Each sector is a single strain or "isolate". You post a lot of good shit dude and grow nice shit but some of your information is plain wrong, like you just made that shit up wrong. If one single sector had lots of strains there would be no point in isolation.

Dude you could use a microscope and literally pluck one single sector and still have multiple strains even some of the peoples isolates arent true isolates... if 30 tubs are the same and the 31st shows different pheneotype ect.. then you have still a culture with multiple strains ..

You dont understand mycology well do you? My buddy grows pot but cant grow tomatoes even though they grow the exact same because he cant wrap his around it. Just because a mutation occurs doesnt mean the strain wasn't isolated. Unless you jave some molecular level evidence unknown to the rest of the world, youre wrong. Anecdotes dont trump science no matter how much youve seen.

Millet and whole oats are a good combo 50/50 by weight. Soak for 24 hours then pour it in a strainer and let it sit for a 1/2 hour to an hour then PC. No simmering or boiling needed.
