I've been a member of many car and motorbike forums and they run smooth a treacle compared to this place - members are rule/law abiding types, for the most part - and so the levels of strife are very low.

But then, you'll never get the same sense of community in places like that, as people tend to come and go as soon as they buy and sell a vehicle.

I'll take the feeling of community over a rule abiding userbase any day of the week, although I do wish people would be a bit kinder here.

I don't like my posts being edited either. The reason i don't like my posts being edited is because i receive no notification for it. If my post has to be edited, i'd like to review edits to make sure that they maintain the intent and integrity of my original post.
Deleting a post sends a notification so the poster knows what has happened.
I noticed that you chose edit instead of delete to Bassfreak's flaming posts and replaced the content with, "reason: flame", ect.
When you delete a post there is a box to offer a reason for deleting the post which is published in the deleted posts place. Why not delete the post instead of editing? When mods choose edit, it seems to me like they're trying to avoid the notification and hide their actions. It appears pretty scummy to me. If someone breaks the rules, delete their shit and ban them until they get the message, simple. There are forums on this board that do allow different levels of tolerance, people need to be sent to the right forums. If there's a problem on this board it's a simple lack of identification of what each forum represents and what will be tolerated. If The Pub's activity is declining then consider OTD's activity too, which is also declining. The fact is that The Pub has relaxed its rules in the last two or so years and has become more OTD like. People that liked the way the Pub used to be may have been driven away while at the same time potential OTDers won't come here due to the possibility of acclaimed rules being enforced upon them. Meanwhile both forums die a slow death.
Forums need Identity. Mods need to enforce it no matter how much the cry babies too dumb to go to the relevant forums cry "PC".
That identity and separation between forums is crucial for success; i can't emphasise that enough.

It's true.
I'm going to go and say it, when we removed politics from the pub a lot of traffic stopped. Sure the majority of threads were about politics but at least it was still an active plaxe.

It feels so dead now, no emcs or lncs like we use to have. Even when I do post it seems like I rarely get a response from anyone.
