I appreciate sam for his thoughts on free will and promoting the headless approach but hes defintely got some weird hardline thoughts on politics and religion, totally unwilling to see the other side of some issues ..and hes obsessed with Trump.
dude needs to practice what he preaches cus hes undermining his spiritual stuff, almost like the spiritual angle is just a way to teach passivity to western atheists, kinda like specialpeopleclub was saying.. but then why would he be a free speech advocate. doesnt add up. maybe sam just isnt as smart as we credit him and more than a couple of his views are conflicting

Sam harris can't seem to even put together the logical conclusion of his 2 main teaching contributions . Seeing thru free will is not some pointless end to itself. Seeing no free will is the crux of "waking up" and the door to the sense of no self . he likes to talk about no self but doesnt address it being an effect of recognizing determinism

seeing determinism is what allows for the seeing of no self.
the sudden understanding that you may have desires , interests and impulses BUT did not create those desires, interests etc... immediately calls into question the selfhood of the one who was thought to have free will.
determinism means its all one cause and effect happening reverberating from the big bang or god. thats not a far off description of nonduality. thats why determinism, which can be practically and logically observed, is the understanding that naturally evolves into a nondual perspective.
if there is a belief in free will there will certainly be the belief of a controlling entity independent from environment. if there is a dropping of the belief in free will then there has to be the dropping of the belief of a self.

yeah well it seems most everyone has a natural aversion to it at least initially. it can really take the wind out of your sails if you get a good look.
but ya comforting because it is the peace that passes understanding . even a cursory understanding can ease up the mental stress of thinking things couldve been any different than they are .

I agree with a lot of his opinions and enjoyed the book Waking Up but his podcast got boring to me after a while. Haven't listened in months. I tried his meditation app once and it was meh.
