Marijuana extractions, tinctures, oils, etc * 1

Guys I really wana do some work with some marijauan extractions.

Edibles, oils, tinctures, anything that is a pure extraction used for both ingestion as well as possibly for topical application in the form of oils added to do it yourself lotions or shampoos and things like that

Any advice on where to start?

Maybe some links or tek?

Ive used butane as a solvent. That's what the dispensaries typically use. Pure Alcohol works as well. Always use good ventilation or cook outside. A lot of vapor explosions

I have a rosin press that I enjoy immensely. It is completely solventless aswell, just put buds in between some parchment paper between the plates and you can start the process. Really good yields plus their a ton of different types of presses: hydraulic, pneumatic, manual, and electric ones now.

How much did the press cost?

I found a guide online using everclear as a solvent.

I can then use that and just take it orally or even add to like baked goods or something...?

I can help you with any butane extraction and distillation questions you may have Enkidu.

I don't mess with too many edibles or tinctures though.

Thanks man, I think maybe to start ill just go with an extraction using coconut oil.

I feel like that might be a good introductory and experience, I can use it for baking goods or whatever I believe, or just take raw, add it to any topical applications I might want to try

Then I think I might move on to trying a solvent extraction and maybe end up getting a press

The coconut oil just seems really easy and cool to have on hand

This is the way to go especially if you want to dab your medicine

On a budget you can do it with a bench clamp and a hair straightener. But it takes a while to master the technique and you’re gonna break a lot of hair straighteners.

If you’re just eating it yeah you can do coconut oil.

A lil tip when using coconut oil...



I use distilled water when "infusing" the coconut oil. I think I usually do something like equal parts water & oil or 1 part water for every 2 parts oil, somewhere around there, how much water is used isn't important (but I like to always use distilled water when doing any sort of extraction)....When done this way it seems the water pulls & catches some of the chlorophyll and other water soluble "crap" instead of it all going into the oil.

After cooling, the oil and water separate and the coconut oil solidifies (at least below 75f) and one can see how dirty/brown the water is...It is nice knowing a portion of that crap isn't making it's way into the oil, makes for a cleaner & less bitter tasting oil/final product IMO.

I enjoy the taste of the canna-coco oil I make...To actually taste the goodness of the herb itself, I like to slather the canna-coco-oil on some good bread/toast/sourdough with a little bit of sea salt sprinkled on top :drooling: . Delicious.

Like it mentions...I too usually aim for about 1.5g of trim per tablespoon of oil, up to 2g per tablespoon. I have what I consider a moderate tolerance (0.2g to 0.5g of quality herb smoked per day for 9+ a years), and 2/3rds to 1 full tablespoon of my oil gets me where I like to be for a "casual" edible high/stone, 1.25 tablespoon and I start getting pretty damn stoned.

No doubt the potency can vary a lot though...depending on the trim/buds one is using and how well it's decarbed, lots of variables at play.


Now this thread has me motivated to make some canna-coco-oil tomorrow from the last of my trim and bits of herb :grin: .

I make a tincture with bud ground and decarbed using this chart. 95% alcohol is added at 10ml per 1g. Refrigerate for a few days before straining. 1ml is a good dose.



Qwiso with isopropyl alcohol is another option. Grind buds and put them in the freezer with the iso alcohol. Once chilled, mix and shake vigorously for 30 seconds. Filter immediately. Put the extract in a tray under a fan to evaporate the iso alcohol off. A sticky waxy type extract is what's left. Smoke or vape it, or heat it in a water bath to mix it with the oil/butter/topical cream of choice.

The way I did it was to add it to a mason jar then place in a pot of simmering water and its sitting on the stove now, you think this is a sufficient method?

Do you normally simmer in a pan like the tek you quoted said, just the oil and bud and simmer on a pan..?

I read to do this in the mason jar for anywhere from 2-8 hours depending on what link I read

I think next time I will do this with the crockpot method and use more oil/bud

I thought this might be good to try with a smaller amount of bud, I did 9g bud and 1 cup oil. Added a bit of water like you suggested too.

Also, so once it cools, do you just pour the water off the top?

I would say a heat bath with a mason jar is the safest way to extract in my opinion. That was u cant burn the coco oil, just have to keep adding water to the pot.

Don’t overthink coconut oil extraction.  It’s super simple.  I bake my trim/bud for 30-40 minutes at 200 in the oven to decarb it.  Then stuff it in my crockpot with just enough oil to cover it.  Let it go overnight on low and strain it in the morning.  Coconut oil is my fav( it doesn’t spoil even at room temp like butter will)but you can literally use any fat/oil you have around.  Also I would highly recommend rick Simpson’s ethanol extraction, it can be very versatile.  Stay away from butane unless you have vacuum pump to insure you extract all the butane.  You don’t want to smoke/ingest that shit.

Yeah I was planning to just use the crockpot method cause it seemed real fool proof but all the teks I saw called for an o of bud or more and I had already decarbed 9g, wasn't sure if I could scale it down or if the crock needed more oil in it

So figured I would try the mason jar method :shrug:

I have been thinking about doing an extraction with everclear

Seems from what I hear and read that oil in its concentrated form has the strongest medicinal properties which i am very interested in the medicinal properties at this point over just getting high or constantly getting high

Hoping the oil works out and I can use it kind of in a microdose type of fashion

Am I the only one using a magick butter machine?  decarb my trim at 250 for 30 min.  add soy lecithin and 2-5 cups of coconut oil hit the 8 hour button, the highest temp and walk away.  I run 3 batches of leaf into 5 cups of coconut oil and everyone who has tried it tells me it's "very strong" a little bit goes a long way.  ending up with like 2 gallons of coconut oil by the time the bud was dry enough to extract  I went with "gold dragon" enough everclear to cover the chopped up bud, let it sit in dark and cool place for 30-90 days shake when you think about it.  Fabulous taste.  I usually add a tablespoon of soy lecithin per quart of everclear but am not sure if that is entirely necessary.

  After much research I decided that the taste of the gold dragon was good enough to offset the ridiculous long wait.  I can get the same effects in 8 hours in the mb2 but it loses a lot of the terpenes and taste. The yield from using everclear in the mb2 is pretty horrible also. To get rid of the green color just sit the mixture in the sun for a bit. (1-2 hours)It won't hurt your potency. it turns this lovely gold color 



Everclear is nasty regardless I found an all natural water flavoring that covers up the taste as not everyone cares for even the taste of gold dragon.
