If you have a dish with the fuzzy fluffy look to it, can you just do transfers until you get what you’re looking for or should you go spores to agar again? My last two attempts ended up with those cottony overlaid looking ones you posted. Never got any fruits from them.

Im curious why do you hang the bags after the PC cycle though? Wasn't understanding your intention with that.

The bags won't have any air in them after the PC cycle (and they are pre-sealed). If you hang them the air will come in
through the filter patch faster...so you can inoculate them sooner. Otherwise, it might take a day or two. This way you
can be ready in 4-6 hours.

Sorry I understand now. Too much gin last night...

Thanks for a superior write up and also for the print provided for one of my next projects. Once I get the appropriate equipment and setup I will be following along and most likely will have more questions. Thank you for your effort and also congrats on trusted cultivator status, well deserved friend.

ABSOLUTELY AWESOME!! I read through this the other day and when I looked for it again I could not find it. I bookmarked it so I won't lose it again. My question is which Panaeolus is the best to grow or are they all about the same? Anyone willing to PM me with a preferred vender would be greatly appreciated.

Plentiful fruits and lots of visuals. I will be isolating on agar. So the best visuals.

Sorry, missed this question.

You can't transfer and eventually get something good. If I saw this again, I would throw the print away and look for another. I started again from spores and got the
same result. It was a dominant trait. I sent Blue Helix a partial print and he was able to fruit it, but the extra effort he put in is nothing I would do or
recommend to anyone else. If you just have to give it a go, PM me and I will send you a link to the details.

Gorgeous writeup, it really makes me want to try Pan Cyans, but i'm way too much of a rookie to start yet. Major appreciation for how much time went into this writeup, definitely saving this for later

Great write up my friend! This is exactly what I've been needing. I just recently started playing with panaeolus cyanescens var. Jamaica. The few teks I've found, didn't contain some of the details you've included. In David Barlow's book, he mentions using a 1:8 ratio of horticultural lime/peat moss. Does that seem excessive to you? Is the lime all that necessary?

i've been thru about three dozen first transfers from around a dozen germ plates from three different prints. none have exhibited the thin and whispy form advised here. apart from extremely poor luck, what could explain this?

my ideas:
  overrich agar
  low temperature

any other ideas?

Hey now, don't let this write up deter you. This is written more for an intermediate grower. I started all this because I wanted to figure out how to get
a canopy of my favorite species and kind of went down a rabbit hole.

MacMerdin's Simple Pan-Cakes is a gentler introduction and it's really fun, too.

I just realized my agar recipe is the one thing I left out. I'm not doing anything fancy. I use MEA at 9g/400ml water. It's a pretty light recipe. I
also have use 15g/400ml and noticed no difference. Every once and awhile I will make an hpoo tea and sub that for straight water...and really just
to switch things up.

What are your temps and can you post some pics?

Thanks for the encouragement! The process seems straightforward enough that i'm sure i could handle that part, but it sounds like they need more attention and a closer eye during fruiting. I've only done three monotubs of cubes so far which is why i say i'm too much of a rookie. Not to mention a lot of new materials that i don't have and haven't used but obviously that's not a huge deal.

Btw math-nerd note; when using decimal places, always include the leading zero. Less confusion and less chance of overlooking 0.6 versus .6
