    #25989622 -

hey all .. this is for the fist time i am growing shiitake.. does the shiitake have the tendency of forming clumps of mycelium like oyster pins inside the bags. are these pins or is it just ageing. or is it not shiitake at all.

the variety is the natural log one (M290)

thanks in advance ..

PS. posted it in another thread but didnt get an answer ..

Sorry man! i was going to answer that but forgot!!

Don't worry, that swelling is what shiitake mycelium have to do during ripening. The surface of the block is going to swell with that kind of "white mountains and valleys", after that some areas are going to start browning. When a block start to pin inside of the bag you will notice it, don't worry about that

Looks fine.
I like to keep it in the bag until the whole surface turns mostly chocolate brown.
With the varieties I have grown I often get a few mushroom fruits with caps and gills in the bag, but I keep going until brown. Maybe your variety is different / your experience may vary.
