How Necessary is Airflow in a Monotub?

Hi! How necessary is air exchange and airflow in a monotub? I'm planning a monotub grow (a single clear Steralite container) as a fruiting chamber. Most examples I see show you to cut holes in the container and stuff poly-fill in them to create filtered airflow. I'd prefer to have the whole thing air-tight and self-contained without the holes instead, but want to know if it would work or produce as prolifically.

I want to try making it an airtight container that doesn't require the constant attention and watering. I would put two plastic shoebox-sized bins of mycellium in the tub. I would fill the bottom of the larger tub with a few centimeters of water to create a humid environment inside the chamber, moisten the mycellium, and seal it air-tight to grow.

Any thoughts? Will this work?

Second question: if the shrooms need airflow to grow, could that be accomplished with a small fan inside the chamber? Is this necessary?
