Does anybody have any advice on the above? Sorry to annoy, I can expand the LC to more LC today if my agar mixture will work, or I can order the stuff from jake's recipe - just don't want to waste my LC.

I believe the culture itself will grow in any standard agar or LC recipe for expansion, it's just for fruiting that you need all those other additives.

And no you don't need to use your whole 10ml syringe to start a pint of LC, just use 1ml and save the syringe you got as a backup.

Sorry man it’s been a crazy week yeah you can substitute other sugars there are tons of recipes that will work this will just give you a starting point and a base idea but yeah man use what you have and see what works don’t go too far from the path but supplementing one sugar for another won’t be a problem

Perfect! Thank you both. I'll make a standard LC with corn syrup & use 1-2 tsp of my agar mix for the broth.

experimenting with these now.. just loaded tons of jars into a tent.

i have brown rice, but it would be way more local for me to use rye.  From what i can determine, a major difference between brown rice nutrient and rye is the bran contained with the rice.  Instead of hot loading from rice cooker, i about to pressure cook rye bags which are supplemented with bran.. inoculate cordycep lc into bag, and once colonized load them onto monotubs.

I had better luck doing bulk tubs with bags and pressure cooker....I only had good luck using the instapot for deli containers

Hi!

I am also gathering all the info I can while waiting for my cordyceps mycelium transfers to grow on the agar plates.
It is doing well and I will soon go for the fruiting step.
I want to experiment with different fruiting substrates, but the problem is that I am not sure to be able to find all the supplements.
I could get some vitamine B1 and ordered peptone and K2HPO4 that are on the way.
But other chemicals and azomite will be much more difficult to find here in Spain.
Meanwhile, I wonder if I could use a more natural substrate with good results. I can buy some dehydrated silkworm pupae, and my question is if they could provide all the nutrients that the chemicals do.
So, would it be a good idea to mix 50% whole rice + 50% silkworm pupae?
Am I missing any important supplement here?
My aim is that the fruits have as many medicinal properties as possible.

Thanks!

Ok, finally I could find all the ingredients but the ammonium citrate (but it is on the way for my next culture).
So I made 7 jars for fruiting the plates I had. The plates were classic MEA where I put the original cordyceps tissue (from a specimen found in the wild that was sporulating, so it is mostly a MS culture). I got nice mycelium and did up to T2 transfers.
My plan is to try getting some fruits and use the best specimen to make a clone and use it for the main culture, with more jars, but now I have a doubt... does it really work making clones and growing them or do I need to cross more than one single specimen?
Another questions that have arised in the proccess:

-Following the original formula (30 gr. brown rice + 44 gr. nutrient solution in each jar) I found that, after pressure cooking, the rice grains were not loose, but in a compact cake that is impossible to break as much as I hit the jar. Is this normal?

-I am not doing a LC at this stage, just putting a wedge into the fruiting jars. Is it ok or will it have a lack in the ammount of liquid?

-In three of the jars I have added 5 gr. of crushed dry silkworm pupae, just for experimenting. Has anyone tried this kind of supplement with good results?

That's all for now. Thanks for your help

I'm getting cordys soon...Wanted to ask if when you spore to plates if they need to be kept in the dark or not? Obviously, they'll be in the light while doing the flow work.

Awesome tek and thanks for putting this together!!

There are lots of broth recipes that will work you do not have to follow mine exactly I change mine around slightly all the time looking for improvements I haven’t ran these in a few months but I am about to gear up a very large grow of them I will keep this thread updated with my progress

Why couldn't you colonize in a filter patch bag, or a silicon dough bag like mushroom revival uses to sterilize there mixture?

Could you spawn colonized substrate to a SANITIZED container?

I’ve tried using bags before however in my experience cordyceps culture really does not respond well to being disturbed none of the bags I ran fruited... Maybe if you never touched the bag after inoculating it would work

What do you mean distributed? Like colonized, broken up then left to reconsolidate? Or colonized, broken up with addition new substrate, then left to recolonize.
You mean not touching the bag after inoculating like, mix the sub with LC in the bag, then just leave it completely? As compared to what?
And potentially just fruit in the bag? I was thinking of trying to lay them long ways also.

Ide like to make some culture in bags, inoculate, get spawn then just lay it down in a tub. You don't think so?
Rather than sterilizing a bunch of containers with the sub in it.
Maybe colonize a bag of sub then break it into a few containers or one big one that has just been sanitized, rather than sterilized, porltentially saving alot of room/time/energy. Cords cube style?

Like all of it, once you inoculate it you do not want to disturb the Grain at all it sits in total darkness for two weeks afterwords it is fully colonized and you start the light cycle you definitely can’t break it apart after the dark cycle put it in a new container and then fruit it, it will not work. even just doing it in a bag and then picking the bag up out of your dark closet to move to your fruiting area disturb The grain too much and I only got a few tiny fruits popping up in what I assume was the couple areas that were least disturbed by the jostling of the bag being moved. Their growth requirements are completely unique from any other mushroom cult

Well there goes that idea.....

Make since man. And I'm sure as fuck not going to try and backtrack when you clearly figured out why people aren't easiing their production.

So where I'm at then, of I want to grow in anything bigger than jars I'm going to need UV sterilization.... Or maybe I can find some thick appropriate plastic containers I can fit into my 55gallon steamer?.. have you had any ideas on expanding past jars?

What's an average yield on a good jar, dry?

how are you sterilizing them?
Could I put the substrate in the tote then in my steamer?
Rather than sterilizing the substrate in a bag then mixing with LC in the container. Maybe just put the sub in the container, sterilize, then mix the LC in, in the container..?

I actually had better luck with bags....that and it's alot easier to run a few bags through the pc than do a bunch of instapot runs
