This Huasteca is about the ugliest pan grow I have ever done. Worse than the Bama's for sure

But, I've pulled 20g dry from it
Currently waiting on my 3rd flush of this Huasteca to finish up, then another bisporus attempt is coming up next (LC is ready).
Still trying to get cultures I like for Washington County, TX and Beulah. Have some nice plates going from my spores from the last Aussie grow (from the big fat cap). Also have a culture started which we will call var. Blue Springs. Finally, a culture from a Hawaiian red spore print. I was lucky to get an RDU print from an old Blue Helix grow but have been unable to get any germination.
Edit: can't forget the tropicalis!

Asura i am about to do T2 transfers from your Hawaiian Red Spore mutant . I can snap pics of the plates before i do the transfers if you want but there is a good amount of condensation on the lids.

I took these pics last night. I made two transfers from each plate today. Sorry for the sub par quality of the pics. Thanks for a chance to work with the genetics

You have a lot of good options there. That last plate looks good. Im calling it HRS too lol. If we can isolate it we need a cool name.

Maybe I missed this, but do you add properly hydrated and prepared grain? Or do you just add dry grain?
Thanks

Spawn Bags (Direct Inoculation) This type of grow is done a little differently from what you would do with a typical cubensis grow. There is no grain spawn. Instead, "supplemental" grain is added to horse manure, straw and verm. ~63% water by weight is added to the substrate. Spawn bags are sterilized for 4 hours and then inoculated with LC.
Substrate Horse manure 675g Milo 250g (WBS is fine) Straw 75g Vermiculite 100g ---------------------- Total weight 1100g
This leads to a dry weight of 1100g. And this assumes that everything (particularly manure) is BONE DRY.
Now for the water...
I added 1900g of water to the substrate. Nice math because this adds up to 3000g.
If you mean this (quoted from the op)- that's dry weight. You're adding the water separate.

Ok thanks, I wasn’t sure by the wording when I first read it but that makes sense.
Seems great to me, I hate prepping grain.
Would this work with larger grains like rye?

Never done it, but I don't see why not. Grain is grain. Rye is expensive though. Get some seeds.
The only issue I could see is water content getting messed up if you make substitutions. Different grains are gonna hold different amounts.

I just dump the grain in. I think any differences as far as water content goes would be negligable.
I would be fine substituting rye or millet by weight in the sub without any changes. In fact I'm doing bisporus right now with rye.

Hey Asura, I have some nice transfers from my original plates. I am thinking i dont want to aim for a monoculture because it might limit my chances of getting red spores. What do you think? Go to grain or transfer again?

Wowwwwwww game changer.
I hate prepping grain, I may have to run some more subs like this soon for cubes and others..might even work with master mix and edibles?
Nice job, I need to get my shit together and try a nice fruiting chamber for exotics and really try and play.

Is that TC tag new? I feel like it is. Congrats if so.
Anyway, yeah I've never bothered with rye. Also the same reason i kinda steered him away- rye is expensive af. Bird seed is like 25 cents a pound, or less... the best price i found for rye was 2 dollars

What kind of straw? I was in TSC and I seen like 5 or 6 kinds, or does it matter? And can I get the hPoo from co-op? Will it be the right kind, if they sell poo. I'd rather go but than have shipped. I'm not paranoid, just would be easier.

I get rye for $10.99 to 19.99 for 50 lbs at my local feed store.
I can get millet for a similar price, was considering changing with those soak teks out there for the smaller grains, but this hydrate during PC with sub is a great way to go for the grain I have.
Would be nice to do up 6 or so bags in the PC with grain and sub and then do straight grain runs for my edibles and the few g2g I do.

Hey fish! I'm actually experimenting with this type of grow with cubes. Basically build up the whole sub first with coir, verm and grain. I'll leave enough headroom with the water content so that I can soak each bag with a lot of LC. Let the whole thing colonize and then just break up into a tub to fruit.
