Yeah don’t toss them, maybe you can provide some insight after having seen them.  But again, I say they don’t look like what I know to be stones.  Rather just thick clusters of mycelium more like pop corn (the white popped part) or like cotton candy is what I describe it as.  They must not be “real” stones or just Pan stones in their own right..?  I’m curious to see how the fruiting will go.

So I'm currently doing my first attempt at a Pan Cyan grow in 5 years. Never actually achieved fruits, but had varying degrees of success with agar, grain and spawning to H.Poo.

It's a Pan Cyan Tasmania print from a reputable bird's eye. My cultures have been growing kind of slow, especially compared to what I remember from my initial attempts all those years ago. I'm seeing exactly what you're showing here in your jars, tiny dense clusters. I had no idea that Pans could produce stones. Some of my jars I thought had stalled, as I shook them there were huge clumps in them. there is still growth, but it's super slow! I'd feast on those clumps if I wasn't allergic to rye

I’ve also noticed that when they do produce stones a lot of the time the mycelia does not want to expand any more or very little at extremely slow paces.

Fits with what I've heard that production of stones is a survival method for the myc.

BTW some awesome stuff here! :cookiemonster:

Substrate
Horse manure 675g
Milo 250g (WBS is fine) <- grain is not prepped in any way
Straw 75g
Vermiculite 100g
----------------------
Total weight 1100g

+ 1900g of water = 3 KG

If i wanted to use spawn instead of LC and pasteurize the substrate instead of sterilizing... How would i do it with the water content if i take grain out of that calculation? instead of 1900g of water it would be less? I'm thinking just adding 250g of colonized grains to the pasteurized substrate, mix really well and the just put in trays. I have a good weight and i prefer weighting things instead of using volume. Weight is more pro.

So, in other words, if you want to do it in a completely different way than
what I describe here, what should you do?

If it's a process you aren't going to repeat a bunch of times, I
would just make up some substrate and shoot for about 65% water content. It's
a good rule of thumb for most subs. Prep your spawn however you do it
and add it when it's ready

If you want to make this same sub a bunch of times, I would go to the trouble
to figure out everything by weight. Otherwise don't over think it.

Yes that is what i'm trying to figure out. I want to make the same substrate a bunch of times. Just having trouble with the calculations, I wanted to use your recipe but those 250 grams of grain that i have to take out fucks up everything. I'm very bad at math lol, i will end up using more or less water that i should. I guess i'll have to do it with volume first then weight the dry substrate and then the water and so on. idk.

This recipe is 63% water, so without grain:

3000g - 250g = 2750g

2750 x 0.63 = ~1733g of water for your new recipe.

I think that's what you are asking for?

Yep, but you think the dry grain you mix there absorbs that much water?  Maybe 1733g of water will not be enough and will be more on the dry side. idk. Also because you measured dry grain, my spawn which is colonized hydrated grain will weight more than what it was suppose to be 250 grams. Maybe i will have to use 500 grams of hydrated colonized grain?

The 3kg substrate, you say is enough for one 4 quart pyrex tray in your TEK?

Have Jamaican Pans that do this. I'll show pictures of jars in the next couple days.

finally pins!!!!  out of 3 trays this is the only 1 that didnt overlay like crazy. i swear that the whole subs  turned into blocks of rubber. i just hope i get a cpl fruits worth cloning to be able to start over. why the hell does jamaica overlay as bad and as often as it does?

This is one of the best writeups regarding Pan Cyans. Very informative! Thank you very much.

I have a question regarding the fruiting chamber and grow room. Do you think it is feasible to grow them, following this TEK without the fogger setup? I keep the tubs in a bathroom that has no window but a small ventilator that stucks air out of the room. Also I use a heater to keep temps around 77-80° and have an electronic thermo/hygrometer. I just can't spend the money on a tent and humidifier atm. So, can I go without those if my culture is good and everything else is as you recommend?

Thanks in advance.

I would just use a SGFC and try to fruit in small trays if this is what you have to
work with. This should keep the humidity up and give you good FAE as well.

So you mean smaller than the ones you suggest in the OP? Or should I use one of those, each in a separate SGFC?

The yield will be minimal which is sad, but I think you have the experience, so I will try that.

Thank you again!

I wonder if I will ever see pins on this one. It is a totally failed attempt at growing Pan Cyans. I spawned to pasteurized straw/h-poo, layered it, then out of stupidity mixed it, then compressed it, then mixed it again to soften it up (I was very doubtful  ), then I cased it immediately (no waiting for straw/poo to colonize) with some sphagnum peat moss that was a brick (not powder)... many mistakes.

As this is my first try, I have no idea if it looks good or bad, but I'm happy to see something happening in there. Could end up in major overlay though. What do you guys think? Is there a way to "introduce pinning" or something that I should do? Fanning or so, despite not seeing primordia yet?
