Temperature
    #2598350 - 04/24/04 04:30 PM (14 years, 1 month ago)

My friend just did a grow using straw. He got an ok yield, but thought he'd get more. Well, he recently realized the temp in the terrarium was 85. First off, does anyone know how much temp throws off yields, and any idea on how to get the temp down in the terrarium.

If you have a good sized terrarium, one of those reusable ice packs works nicely. Esp if you are fruiting cakes, you can get one of the kinds that are designed for chilling six-packs and sit it between the cakes. If you do that, though, keep an eye out for drops in humidity.

Also, I know a FOAF whose cat was growing in the plastic rubbermaid style containers. He went to wal-mart a got an automotive air filter (the square ones) for about five bucks, sprayed it down with peroxide&water, cut a whole in the side of the chamber, and slide the filter in the hole. Then, he got a cheapo floor fan (about $7) and ran it on low, pointed towards the filter. It provided cheap, filtered air, and kept the temperature down. But again, I caution - watch out for the humidity level!

The events in question are not to my recollection.

I have a hard time seeing how this would be effective. I wouldn't imaging mush air being able to make it THROUGH that filter, without some kind of ducting from the fan to it. Also, if you only have 1 passage for air built into the container, then where would the air inside of it make its exit? Think of it this way...you can't blow air into a beer bottle, unless there's a place for it to exit as well.

i dont think it would do anything using the fan like that.
as far as dropping the temp, just turn off the heat,or move incubator to a cooler place.if your room temp is 85 degrees,it must be pretty uncomfortable
