Should I mist for surface conditions?
    #25983375 -

I moved colonized grains (1 lb.) to coir (1:2 ratio) into a shoebox. I followed bod's bucket tek. Field capacity looks right.

My only question is, I see some conflicting information here. Some say to close the lid and forget about it after spawning to bulk until you see pins, then mist. But there's also another post that describes proper surface conditions, which posits beads of water should be on the surface.

Right now there are no beads of water. Should I just set and forget, or mist to get the beads of water?

Let it colonize then worry about surface conditions.

Absolutely forget it. fuggetaboutit.
Mycelium colonizes better when things are on the dry side as opposed to wet anyway. Wait til you get pins then mist if it's necessary.

Umm, wait for it to colonize then provide surface humidity. Surface evaporation is a pinning trigger so if you wait until it pins to mist you'll have uneven flushes at the very least. Just wait until it's colonized then reevaluate.

Its hard to just set and "forget" things when ur new and excited about it! Shoot its still hard for me sometimes  but it really is normally the best way to go. Mushies seem to grow great on there own without interference. And one of the biggest mistakes new people make is to over mist!

Good luck on ur grow brotha. Post some pics soon!

OP said he thinks his field capacity was done right. No need to doubt em. And if it was then you should definitely see pins and surface moisture too as things progress.
It just sounds like OP has to practice patience and stay hands off for a while.
It'll get there.

I'm not telling him he has to mist, just reevaluate. I moved 5 colonized tubs last night to my main closet, 2 needed slight misting, 3 were still good. The two that needed misting were void of pins. All are now knotting/pinning.

Although it is unreasonable to think a new person knows when a slight mist is needed, you absolutely should be evaluating if things need a mist the moment it's colonized. Some tubs will and some tubs won't. Don't expect every grow to behave exactly the same. It's up to the grower to evaluate when things need to be done.

Thank you Sir. This is a multispore straight to grains grow, so I'm sure it'll be bacterial, etc. But I had the syringe lying around and I'm not able to get a PC until next month, so I figured, why not. The last one I did with this same syringe yielded 4 flushes, so it was better than nothing.

I feel like this grow is going a lot better than the last one, but I'm a newb so who knows. Thoughts?

Beaded water sitting on substrate or fruits has never been a good thing from my experience.

As long as you are letting the beads of water evaporate from the surface and then misting when they are all gone is absolutely fine, big pinning trigger

Any thoughts on this one guys? The mushrooms seem like they have stalled a bit and the veils are already breaking--even though they are still pretty short. Curious what I did wrong. These same spores produced much taller mushrooms last time. I know with spores you could be getting entirely different genetics/strains, but they just seem a little small.

Mushrooms that haven't received enough light or fresh air tend to grow taller but also usually have smaller underdeveloped caps and less massive stems. That could be responsible for them being "short". Those all look perfectly normal in terms of morphology. Mushroom size in general is closely linked to the water content of the substrate.
