APE Caps

I’ve got 4 shoeboxes of APE going right now. I’ve noticed that on some of the caps the center turns a grey/tan/(slight shade of green in the right light). That spot on the cap does not feel compromised to the touch, just like normal. One dehydrated they wrinkle up in a weird way that accentuates this feature.

Also others seem to have translucent spots on the caps, also feels like regular cap material.

I do no believe this is pseudomonas based on my research. No discolored stems

Are these normal features of APE’s?

Not sure which you're concerned about. It's normal for the caps to turn blue as they mature(your's could sat another day or 2). Dried ones look normal.

Only abnormality I can see is some water spots. Caused by misting a bit too much after pins established.

Looks like youre misting your caps directly, which causes mushroom-burning from the direct water contact. Try to avoid direct misting, indirect only!

Ah yes, I have been misting directly. I’ll try to avoid that. Thanks for the input both of you.  Good to know these look pretty standard

How about these ones?! The blotchy tan color in the center just seams off to me, but this is my first time with APE’s so idk!

Those look awesome, like eyeballs - I'm sure they're perfectly fine... I would try clone to try and get them to resemble eyeballs.

Here’s another quick example

Side by side, same tub. On the left is what I believe looks like a normal APE cap with a smooth blue/white color gradient across it. On the right cap there is a slightly raised bump in the center that is extra dark with a tan undertone.

If you have proper FAE and don't overmist you can mist pins no problem. They say Pans will abort, but I've done it with no problems.

If mushrooms aborted because of rain (mist) you would very rarely find any in nature.
