I think i might have found my first ovoids?!

Habitat:
Southeast PA, the habitat is the biggest factor leading me to believe they might not be ovoids. Found on a huge man made mulch bed about 25 yards from a stream. There are no box elders nearby at all and the mulch bed is right next to a treeless pasture. I have found multiple different genus of mushroom on this mulchbed (all poisonous or non edible). The only thing that I have heard associated with ovoids here is garlic mustard. There is an immense amount of garlic mustard

Gills:
Light brown to bluish

Stem:
Mature ones have an about three inch stem, white and bruising



Cap:
Diameter ranges from pins to 4-5 inches, id say on average about 3 inch diameter, it seems the larger the mushroom the darker the cap, young ones are almost all light brown, bigger ones turning dark brown to an almost purple


Bruising:
Significant blue bruising on the stem and cap

If these are ovoids these are my first ever find of any paychadelic mushroom!

Hell yes! Nothing beats finding your first psychedelic mushrooms out in nature, What a beauty of a patch!!! Make sure to remember the location and not to over pick any small pins. You want that patch to flourish throughout the season :super:

Thanks so much everyone for the congratulations on my first mushroom find! I plan on drying and eating 5 grams tomorrow. It will be my first experience with a drug other than alc/weed/nic, let alone my first psychadelic experience.
As for any tips I have for you MushyMoo, try to find the appropriate flora rather than looking for the mushrooms themselves. There are no box elders in the area i found the shrooms to my knowledge and very little nettle. However as i learned in the official Psilocybe ovoideocystidiata thread garlic mustard is also something ovoids grow around and in the area i found them there is more garlic mustard than you can count. Other than that reading the official ovoid thread is your best bet. It has more reliable and consistent information than any book or guide will.

Congrats on finding these.  It is an amazing feeling.

But 5 dried grams? No. No. No. No.

Please do not eat 5 dried grams of ovoids (a strong species).  That is going to be WAY WAY WAY too much for a first time, a second time, or really even a 50th time.

Just do 1 gram for the first time.  Get a feel for the overall headspace of psilocybin. 

You might find 1 gram is perfect for you.  Or if you want to dig a little deeper, wait a couple weeks and try 2 grams.

The whole "5 dried grams" thing that you hear all the time refers to cubensis mushrooms, which are weaker than ovoids. You probably only need like 3g of ovoid to equal the 5 of cubensis (the typical shroom).

But that is like an "expert level" dosage, something you should work up to.

Please be careful with these things.

      Understood. I was going under the stupid uninformed assumption that all species in the genus psilocybe had similar potency. Ugh. Sometimes I just don’t use my head. Anyway thanks alot, I think you just saved me from becoming a shamanic entity thats one with the universe. Haha only kidding. I have heard alot of terence mckenna’s speeches and read some of his work and I guess I was going by his “right way to take mushrooms.” Always 5 grams, empty stomach, complete silence and pitch blackness.

    I now am making a less dangerous assumption that he was also talking about the more popular cubensis and not more potent species such as ovoids. Using that assumption, using terence’s “right way” and using your conversion of 5 grams of cubensis being equal to about 3 grams of ovoids I believe I should take three grams.

    However is this smart? Should I start smaller? I have heard that it is essential to understand psilocybin’s unbelievable capabilities on your first trip and terence has said that taking a larger dose will help accomplish this. Any incite/advice is incredibly appreciated. Thanks again!

I would personally start on the smaller side, if you want to intensify the experience a bit smoke some pot as your peaking

Ok thanks! Definitely was planning on finishing off a half ounce and maybe taking some dabs during the peak/comedown. I have heard that cannabis and psilocybing compliment eachother nicely.

Always take 5g on an empty stomach in completely silent darkness is some of the dumbest mushroom dosage advice I've ever heard.

2g ovoids will send you in my experience.  Most of the time I dose 1.5g in tea and that is enough for me.  Go slow young jedi, have fun be safe.

Congrats on the first finds! I found my first ovoids a week ago today and ate them on Monday.

I have eaten cubes at least 5 times and I will say with confidence that these are more potent. I ate a half 1/8, had body load and euphoric feelings, then ate the rest of my 1/8, and I was floored! I’m talking like blacked out for 20 minutes of eternity followed by geometric visuals not able to do justice with words. Just saying, 1/8 of cubes IS NOT 1/8 of ovoids.

I did a 5G ovoid trip a while back and ended up in a buzzing, otherworldly,looping  fractal world. These guys are pretty powerful...I would certainly not recommend this dosage to a new user...probably wind up in the hospital. Go with 1.5-2.5 grams out in the woods. :mushroom2:

Ok sounds good. I do have another question about dosing however. The ovoids have been on my fan for only a couple of hours. How long should I wait until their dry. I understand it’s best to have them cracker dry so when you breakt them powder comes off. But I have heard it some cases with a regular room fan this can take up to a week. Should I wait until theyre completely dry or do you think there is a way I can reliably dose right now.

Don't listen to Terrence.  He was a genius but also pretty nuts.  There will be a time for pitch-black/complete-silence sessions, but that is not now.

Do not take 3 grams right now.  Take 1 gram. During the day.  Walk around the house.  Walk outside in the yard.  Listen to music.  Look at artwork. Do some yoga.

Keep a water bottle with you as well. Hydration is important.

Combining with weed will make things more intense so go easy on that.  Maybe take one hit of weed when you're coming up and a hit or two throughout the trip. Not dabs.  Just weed.

I'd second the recommendation of starting with 2g. Do 2.5 if you feel like you want more. There's no reason to rush things like this but I understand that's hard to explain/understand. The reason you should wait until it's cracker dry is to make your dosing as accurate as possible. Right now since they're not completely dried they will contain additional water which may throw your dose off.

All that being said...as long as your are aware of the risks, and take care of your set and setting good you should be fine.

Cracker dry for accurate dosage....the stems should snap easily. I keep mine in a dehydrator for 12 hrs. @130 degrees.

If you don’t have a dehydrator keep the fan on them for a day or 2, then get some calcium chloride and put the mostly dried ovoids in a container with it. People say use a screen of some sort but I used aluminum foil and poked a bunch of small holes in it to keep the ovoids and calcium chloride separate in the container. I only had an 1/8 dried so I just used a Tupperware container and made sure the lid stayed locked on with the ovoids and CaCl2 inside. You should have a large enough Tupperware for up to a 1/2oz dried if you keep that kind of stuff around.

Just curious why not fresh? There’s nothing like letting a few pristine specimens melt in your mouth-and then maybe a few more at various intervals depending how you feel - pour A little boiling water over them first if you’re concerned about unseen nasties - I generally avoid fresh thick stems but prime caps are heavenly.

Enjoy and be careful as advised by others- if you eat 5g it’s likely you’ll lose interest in mushrooms for quite awhile possibly decades

Ok thanks I only picked a couple so far out of the patch (mature darker ones) and i think I might let these ones dry for longer and i might go pick some other ones and eat them fresh tmrw. You guys have convinced me to start out slow haha. I think that 15-20 fresh will be good for the first time.
