Please share song lyrics that inspire an emotive response within you. It would be great if you could also include what emotion is evoked.
For me, I've recently been appreciating Bob Dylan's "Boots of Spanish Leather" off of his third studio record, The Times They Are a-Changin'.
Oh I'm sailin' away my own true love I'm sailin' away in the morning Is there something I can send you from across the sea From the place that I'll be landing ?
No, there's nothin' you can send me, my own true love There's nothin' I wish to be ownin' Just carry yourself back to me unspoiled From across that lonesome ocean.
Oh, but I just thought you might want something fine Made of silver or of golden Either from the mountains of Madrid Or from the coast of Barcelona ?
Oh, but if I had the stars from the darkest night And the diamonds from the deepest ocean I'd forsake them all for your sweet kiss For that's all I'm wishin' to be ownin'.
That I might be gone a long time And it's only that I'm askin' Is there something I can send you to remember me by To make your time more easy passin' ?
Oh, how can, how can you ask me again It only brings me sorrow The same thing I want from you today I would want again tomorrow.
I got a letter on a lonesome day It was from her ship a-sailin' Saying I don't know when I'll be comin' back again It depends on how I'm a-feelin'.
Well, if you, my love, must think that-a-way I'm sure your mind is roamin' I'm sure your thoughts are not with me But with the country to where you're goin'.
So take heed, take heed of the western wind Take heed of the stormy weather And yes, there's something you can send back to me Spanish boots of Spanish leather.
The lyrics draw my mind towards an adventurer who is in search of a rarefied truth. It is first depicted and disguised as romantic love, but in hindsight is actually the satisfaction that one feels through the act of being alive and engaging with its pursuits.

Jackson C. Frank has good ones,
a cover song with lyrics:
be
-------------------- C.G. Jung: "Please remember, it is what you are that heals, not what you know." "I shall not commit the fashionable stupidity of regarding everything I cannot explain as a fraud." - Carl Jung Krishna, as his friends called him, freely admitted his compulsive lying. He blamed it on simple fear of having his deceptions detected." NOTES OF A FRINGE-WATCHER MARTIN GARDNER on J Krishnamurti "All your questions are born out of the answers you already have. Any answer anybody gives should put an end to your questions. But it does not." [UG-K]

I've arrived city of lucid dreams Before me a building Looms caked in inky grime
The act unknown Actor in sleep Here I enter, and here I see The circle and bones made in haste
Winds to anoint the faithful
Amorphous specter turns From old to new Rests in faith beside me We wait for the quiet fire To be born and there it is Embodied by a boy His voice small and grey Whispers smoke to the chosen
Upon our heads he places crowns Sewn with hiss and higher tones
The boy presses whispers into her And they bathe in valley's pale rain
The instrumental really does it for me but especially the final verse "the boy pressess whispers into her And htye bathe in valley's pale rain" Is sang with such desperation and care as if the words are too fragile to be handled with anything less than the utmost care.. And it's sang right at the end of the song, which is also the climax. I get a feeling like I'm in a dream really, experiencing something that I'll never be able to experience in waking life. Because the dream world can be anything and anything is much more than what my ego limits my experience to while I'm awake.
Here is another set of lyrics from a different song from the same artist, which evokes a similar emotion reaction from me.
He is not mad His thought is clearer than the saner man For in her he saw beauty, overflowing through the tattered clothes
She was his queen She is a queen
In dreams he wanders the dark, in search of her

Katy Perry - Chained to the Rhythm
Quote:
Are we crazy? Livin' our lives through a lens Trapped in our white picket fence Like ornaments So comfortable, we're livin' in a bubble, bubble So comfortable, we cannot see the trouble, trouble Aren't you lonely Up there in utopia Where nothing will ever be enough? Happily numb So comfortable, we're livin' in a bubble, bubble So comfortable, we cannot see the trouble, trouble Ah, so good Your rose-colored glasses on And party on (woo) Turn it up, it's your favorite song Dance, dance, dance to the distortion Turn it up, keep it on repeat Stumblin' around like a wasted zombie Yeah, we think we're free Drink, this one's on me We're all chained to the rhythm To the rhythm, to the rhythm Turn it up, it's your favorite song Dance, dance, dance to the distortion Turn it up, keep it on repeat Stumblin' around like a wasted zombie Yeah, we think we're free Drink, this one's on me We're all chained to the rhythm To the rhythm, to the rhythm Are we tone deaf? Keep sweepin' it under the mat Thought we could do better than that I hope we can So comfortable, we're livin' in a bubble, bubble So comfortable, we cannot see the trouble, trouble Aha, so good (so good) Your rose-colored glasses on And party on (woo) Turn it up, it's your favorite song Dance, dance, dance to the distortion Turn it up, keep it on repeat Stumblin' around like a wasted zombie Yeah, we think we're free Drink, this one's on me We're all chained to the rhythm To the rhythm, to the rhythm Turn it up, it's your favorite song (oh) Dance, dance, dance to the distortion Turn it up, keep it on repeat Stumblin' around like a wasted zombie Yeah, we think we're free Drink, this one's on me We're all chained to the rhythm To the rhythm, to the rhythm (woah) It is my desire Break down the walls to connect, inspire Ay, up in your high place, liars Time is ticking for the empire The truth they feed is feeble As so many times before The greed over the people They stumblin' and fumblin' and we're about to riot They woke up, they woke up the lions (woah) Turn it up, it's your favorite song (hey) Dance, dance, dance to the distortion Turn it up (turn it up), keep it on repeat Stumbling around like a wasted zombie (like a wasted zombie) Yeah, we think we're free (ah) Drink, this one's on me (ah) We're all chained to the rhythm (we're all) To the rhythm, to the rhythm (we're all chained to the rhythm) It goes on, and on, and on It goes on, and on, and on (turn it up, it goes on and on and on and on) It goes on, and on, and on (on and on and on it goes) 'Cause we're all chained to the rhythm
Love all the references to current life, suburbia, even the secret underground societies of UFOlogy. Epic lyrics.

Death Grips - Beware
[Intro] He come to me with money in his hand He offered me, I didn't ask him I wasn't knocking someone's door down, I was running from that When I got out, I was in that I was already through that, I had that I had the studio, I went to the studio I went to Vox Studios. I had it all, and I looked at it and said, 'This is a bigger jail than I just got out of.' I don't want to take my time going to work I got a motorcycle and a sleeping bag And ten or fifteen girls What the hell I wanna go off into -- and go to work for? Work for what, money? I got all the money in the world I'm the king, man I run the underworld, guy I decide whos does what and where they do it at What am I, gonna run around and act like I'm some teenybopper somewhere, for somebody else's money? I make the money, man, I roll the nickels The game is mine I deal the cards (Beware, God is watching)
[Chorus] I close my eyes and seize it I clench my fists and beat it I light my torch and burn it I am the beast I worship I close my eyes and seize it I clench my fists and beat it I light my torch and burn it I am the beast I worship
[Refrain] And I know soon come my time For in mine void a pale horse burns But I fear not the time I'm taken Past the point of no return Wage war like no tomorrow 'Cause no hell, there won't be one For all who deny the struggle The triumphant overcome
[Verse 1] Trips to where few have been Out of thin air, upon high winds Rites begin when the sun descends Have felt what few will ever know Have seen the truth beneath the glow Of the ebb and flow, where the roots of all mysteries grow I am below, so far below the bottom line Transmitting live, transmissions rise From the depths out of controlled by Suspended glance of an unblinking eyes Imminent gaze cast 'pon the path that winds 'Pon the path I find, and claim as mine To ride the waves of unrest Made to make me shine as a testament To why the ways of the blind will never get Shit but shanked by my disrespect Dismiss this life, worship death Cold blood night of serpent's breath Exhaled like spells from the endlessness In the bottomless wells of emptiness Channeled to invoke what we represent Secret order, elitist horde of creeping fire, seizing power Riders of the lupus hour Eye on palm, time is gone Moonlight drawn, fly till dawn Sacrifice to rise beyond Deep inside the violent calm of the coming storm In blood sworn to glorify and for life adorn With all that dies to become unborn
[Chorus] I close my eyes and seize it I clench my fists and beat it I light my torch and burn it I am the beast I worship I am the beast I worship I close my eyes and seize it I clench my fists and beat it I light my torch and burn it I am the beast I worship I am the beast I worship
[Verse 2] In the time before time eyes 'bove which horns Curve like psychotropic scythes And smell of torn flesh bled dry By hell swarms of pestis flies Vomiting forth flames lit by An older than ancient force That slays this life with no remorse The spiral storm of flames inside The torch I raise, the force I ride Feel my vessel go up in flames Flesh torch lit by the unnamed Direct connection to the source Vestment of unnatural force Forever burning black torch Wisdom of the old and true Possessed by the chosen few Shining to reveal the ways Of a darkness that pervades All that is and ever was Inferno of witches' blood Worship is not on bended knee Nature knows not of mercy To pray is to accept defeat Power pisses on the weak Bow and beheaded by the beast Beggar on a bitch's leash Scum is desperate for relief Worship is the way I ride Witching currents through the eye Of storms that force the false to die Worship the flames with which I rise into apocalyptic skies Harsh winds flay mine flesh to bone In splintered skeleton I roam Wastelands with naught to call my own But the path I walk alone The hunger burns within my gut As my bones turn into dust
[Refrain] And I know soon come my time For in mine void a pale horse burns But I fear not the time I'm taken Past the point of no return Wage war like no tomorrow 'Cause no hell, there won't be one For all who deny the struggle The triumphant overcome
[Chorus] I close my eyes and seize it I clench my fists and beat it I light my torch and burn it I am the beast I worship I close my eyes and seize it I clench my fists and beat it I light my torch and burn it I am the beast I worship I am the beast I worship

Pink Floyd - Dogs has always been my favorite song lyrically. It's hard to pin down the emotions that it makes me feel. The main emotion of the entire Animal album is probably Anger, but I also feel sadness, despair, and desperation that this is the world that we live in.
You gotta be crazy, you gotta have a real need. You gotta sleep on your toes, and when you're on the street, You gotta be able to pick out the easy meat with your eyes closed. And then moving in silently, down wind and out of sight, You gotta strike when the moment is right without thinking.
And after a while, you can work on points for style. Like the club tie, and the firm handshake, A certain look in the eye and an easy smile. You have to be trusted by the people that you lie to, So that when they turn their backs on you, You'll get the chance to put the knife in.
You gotta keep one eye looking over your shoulder. You know it's going to get harder, and harder, and harder as you get older. And in the end you'll pack up and fly down south, Hide your head in the sand, Just another sad old man, All alone and dying of cancer.
And when you loose control, you'll reap the harvest you have sown. And as the fear grows, the bad blood slows and turns to stone. And it's too late to lose the weight you used to need to throw around. So have a good drown, as you go down, all alone, Dragged down by the stone.
I gotta admit that I'm a little bit confused. Sometimes it seems to me as if I'm just being used. Gotta stay awake, gotta try and shake off this creeping malaise. If I don't stand my own ground, how can I find my way out of this maze?
Deaf, dumb, and blind, you just keep on pretending That everyone's expendable and no-one has a real friend. And it seems to you the thing to do would be to isolate the winner And everything's done under the sun, And you believe at heart, everyone's a killer.
Who was born in a house full of pain. Who was trained not to spit in the fan. Who was told what to do by the man. Who was broken by trained personnel. Who was fitted with collar and chain. Who was given a pat on the back. Who was breaking away from the pack. Who was only a stranger at home. Who was ground down in the end. Who was found dead on the phone. Who was dragged down by the stone.

I think that Animals catches more flak than is deserved. I find that there are a number of sonically majestic and thoughtful moments throughout the record. Have you heard Floyd's performance at Wembley in 1974? It was included in the Wish You Were Here Immersion Set. There are some early renditions of "Dogs" and "Sheep" from that show which feature different lyrics, melodies and arrangements. The audio was cleaned up nicely by the Floyd camp for the official release. It's crystal clear. It's also a penetrating glimpse at the musicianship that the band was capable of at the time.
I'll attach a link to the one for "Dogs". It's entitled "You've Got To Be Crazy" whereas "Sheep" is dubbed "Raving and Drooling".

Useless-Noothgrush
Useless human mind, searching for control Forced a weak creation into existence Gave it human form, such a tiny mind Then he wrote the words, "Ignorance is bliss" First, this God punished, then it turned its cheek Now it turns its back on the suffering No one asks why. Man is his own tormentor He looks to the sky for help He's punished by God's self-hatred, for man is his god himselfThis evokes a feeling of depression, and a state of being emotionally and mentally lost. Isolation, Confusion and doubt. Resent and Anger in your misunderstanding. Really hard to pinpoint any specific emotion. The music itself does a pretty good job of conveying that on its own. The brooding droning loud nature of it that demands your attention, while getting monotonous to the point of not even being noticed after a while. The whole album does it really. Just one of their songs I just happened to think of. It pairs nicely with copious amounts of alcohol.
