Changing the color of your mushrooms
    #2597288 - 04/24/04 06:50 AM (13 years, 6 months ago)

This post may seem a bit nefarious to some of you. Rest assured I have nothing but the best of intentions.

Is it possible to add a hew to your mushrooms via the addition of food coloring to one or more stages of a mushrooms growth?

Say different colors for parties or special occations....without reducing the potency.

You could always just dip them in food coloring.

Why is this posted in the advanced forum???  :shake:

That sounds interesting. It's very possible with flowers . . . fungi maybe something different though. Granted, since they DO absorb the water . . .hmmmmm. You should try that and post the results.

Interesting idea indeed. There's a possibility that the mushroom, with it's talent for digesting a wide variety of organic compounds may be able to break down the food coloring. Another possibility is that the mycelium won't even absorb the coloring and the shrooms are their normal hue.

interesting, but hardly original. do a simple search, and you can read 20 threads on this very subject.

simple answer: it doesn't work.

I dunno, if you mixed the food coloring with the brf in the very beginning do you think it would break down the brf for nutrients and absorb the colors as well? Just a thought.

There's no reason to wonder, it been done and the results were posted. It doesn't change the color of the shrooms.
