Hey all! First time attempting to cultivate mushrooms. I inoculated my BRF jars and was just starting to see mycelium growth when I checked my jars today and one of the little white mycelium patches has turned blue/green. I’m assuming this is mold, correct?!  :frown:. Is the whole jar trash, can I just scoop the bad parts out, wipe with alcohol and hope the rest takes? What about all the rest of my jars, they are sharing a space together on a shelf

That jar is toast, did you knock all the jars up with same syringe? If so there is a good chance they will go bad too if the contam was in the syringe :/ Dont be discouraged, contams happen.

NOOOOO!!!! I did 3 with one syringe, and 3 with another. So sad! I thought I was so careful. I used the oven door method, wiped with alcohol and burned the needle tip to red inbetween each jar. Darnit!

Its alright might just be a fluke. How many ccs did you put in each jar?

Wouldn't matter how careful you were if the spores inside the syringe were already contaminated bud. That's why the best route is to get into Agar, put a drop of MS on an agar plate, and keep transferring healthy mycelium until you have a healthy plate. Then xfer that to grains

1CC per jar. I’ve got spore solution left over. But, I bought the jars supposedly sterilized and ready to go to try and save time. Guess I need to just do it myself.... so just dump the jar out? It’s so sad 😭

1cc is way too much. You only need a drop.

MS syringe is a crap shoot. Learn to use agar. It will make your life much easier.

Working with prints and agar is so much more reliable. With little effort you can clean up your mycillium and get way more fruit for your troubles.

Until then use as little spore solution as possible. There are contaminants in the spore solution, so using less equals better chance of the right spores getting a start and growing.

Look at it this way: if you have a bucket with 200 white ping pong balls in a bucket, and 10 red ones mixed in. If you grab a big hand full of balls there will likely be a red one in your hand. Grab a small hand full and likely they will all be white.

Probably a shitty analogy, but I think it explains what I'm saying.
