Whats the difference between strains like for example b+ and GT or any variety of shrooms.
Is it mainly a cultivation difference or growth preference, or a strength difference just curious im a long time reader of the forum but new user and also new to growing as well.

Those are varieties not strains, a single MS plate contains literally thousands of different strains, there isnt much difference between varieties besides looks, name, and potency varies from mushroom to mushroom although PE tend to be pretty strong

No problem at all, alot of people use the term strain when in mycology a strain isn't the same as say a strain of bud is, honestly if your choosing which ones to go with just choose whatever seems cool to you, GT, PE, AA+, and B+ are all pretty popular

it kind makes me think about bud too, shouldn’t the names of bud also be considered varieties?

I'm not sure, haha the whole strain vs variety still confuses me some when it comes to pot, I think in weed the two are interchangeable perhaps?

They just have different traits but at the end of the day they all came from 1 cubie a long time ago...names are just so we can keep track of specific traits...
The GWM was the sub-strain I grew the most cuz it was a group effort to stabilize over a couple years, plus I like white shrooms...
APE v1 was the strongest cubie ever imo...havent tried the 2.0...was hard to grow tho

Like bud, some are better than others...but the amount they vary only goes so far

They didnt all come from one cube, use Nepal and huatla as the example, Nepal was from the Nepal chitwan area and huatla is from huatla de Oaxaca Mexico, two totally different regions and two different Cubensis, granted there is the argument that a cube is a cube but they definitely did not all come from 1 cubensis a long time ago

Of course they all came from one cube a long time ago unless you believe god put a bunch here and there in completely different locations and discount evolution and common ancestors

I mean the universe definitely put a bunch here in areas all over, but I guess if you trace them all the way back they may have all evolved from one mushroom and the spores spread world wide somehow or something I guess, so how did all these varieties come to be bod?

They all started somewhere then branched out. Probably before all the continents even divided apart

That would make sense, then as time passed they all evolved to live in there environments and such, so if thats the case then they could have all came from one cube millions of years ago?

And since the continents started drifting from Pangaea about 200 million years ago or so, that leaves a lot of time for the cubes to evolve and form different varieties which better survived local environmental conditions.
