Ready for harvest/okay to eat?

This is my first batch and some of the caps are turning dark. Today I noticed the veils are open and I harvested them. They smell fine. Are they too late and unsafe to eat? I tried to upload and attach an image but I can't figure that out yet. Thanks for the help.

Probably just spores, if so theyre fine to eat.
