I really want to find a job that actually means something.

Like it actually matters if I don't show up and never come back. Right now I'm in insurance and I am in a unique position but it's insurance. It doesn't matter if I come in tomorrow and help sort out small pieces of data and legal shit for a company that makes over 28 billion dollars annually.

Especially when me and my coworkers combined get paid 0.00001% of that.

Basically where I'm at right now is that I have pretty debilitating physical and mental disabilities and I'm in the process of getting Social Security disability however recently it was cut by 80% in the federal budget so I'm not holding my breath. My doctors say that I definitely qualify though so hopefully Justice will be served there. Then there is the issues of drug testing which is a huge hurdle for most everyone I know. For me I use medical cannabis for four different prescriptions that he used to take and I cannot go without it and function.

In a perfect world I would love to work at least a few days a week during my disability to give me time to recover and get back on my feet. Therein lies another problem which is they say you can work a certain amount of hours and still collect disability but in reality they deem you able bodied if you're able to work 4 hours a week sometimes. Just because someone can work 4 hours a week doesn't mean they can support themselves on that. So on a psychological level I am disappointed that I can't work right now.

i chose unemployed and not looking just because i have no leads or anything but i still keep in my thoughts the MMJ industry, but i'm a shy person who has trouble talking with a stranger about anything, even muttering "thank you"

im employed full time. 12 hr shifts and i hate it lol i dont hate the work.. but 12hrs is too much. rotating schedule 3days on one week, then 4 on the next. so every other week i get 4 days off too.

I work in a where house and it's shit.
Hard physical work and the pay is shit.
I am employed casual so there's no guarantee of shifts or hours.
No benefits like sick leave or annual leave.
I have worked there for more than two years and they haven't put anyone on full time for more than that.
There is a problem in this country where there is a casualisation of the workforce.
People are underemployed and are living in poverty.

On a positive note I am booked in for my forklift licence in two weeks.
Hopefully I get that and can get a real job😉

my freind was in and he and the other gang would trade fake money for fake drugs
his gang was collecting police looking stuff so they could rob people lol

i honestly have been searching for a job since december
but it makes more sense for me to study and work on my own stuff than look for a job since going to school and looking for jobs doesn't give you any relevant experiance

i've tried to get jobs outside of my area of study but they think I will quit if they hire me so they don't, I go to like 2 or 3 interviews a month and walk out with nothing,
I can't imagine how someone would keep a roof over their head if they couldn't find work, we should round up the politiicians and scalp them for what they're doing to the average worker they make 300x more than

I'm at work now it's slow so I am doing shit like going on shroomery. Before my youtube got de-monetized i would be working and making videos at the same time.

I used to do surveys for amazon gift cards, but that took forever. I'm looking for something I can do on the side while at work. It has to be something i can stop/start any time, like i can't take calls or teach Asians English on Skype.

I haven't been unemployed a single day since 2005. I would probably just drive for uber or skip the dishes or whatever if i had no job and a car. I have to work or I would have no roof over my head, my choice is work or be homeless.

I used to do 12hrs 2 days one week 5 the next (inc fri, sat, sun) and get 25 days leave a year. That was sweet. If you took the right days off you could be be off for 7 days and only use 2 days leave.
Sitting at a desk for 12hrs a day though was fucking soul destroying.

Conservation studies.
Pay isn't really the question. Qualifications and job availability are.

Most folk with a masters in the conservation field fight for unpaid internships. Making it a profoundly expensive hobby more than a job.

And it's because no one but government and non-profit organizations give a shit about conservation science and they give as few shits as they possibly can.


A major reason I dropped out of school was because I realized my career path was actually a one way ticket down the suicide road.

I’m unemployed and not looking. Sometimes if I meet a girl I’ll lie and tell her I’m looking for a job but I only say that because girls can be very judgmental I usually try to go as long as possible without tell her I don’t have a job. There’s a stigma with 30 year old guys not having a job and it’s unfair. But if a girl is just a gold digger looking for a guy with a high paying job then usually she’s the type of girl that i don’t want to waste my time with anyway. I can usually tell if a girl is a gold digger early on and I don’t waste time trying to get to know girls like that because I know as soon as i tell them I don’t have a job they are gone and ghost me.

Why can’t some of these girls just have their own jobs and get to know a guy based on his personality instead of whether or not he has a job?

Artist, musician, performer, actor.
I used to want to paint those billboard signs on the freeway (they actually hired people to do this in my day,lol. now they're electric and will be holograms soon). I wanted to be an artist. I had an art scholarship in middle school. The stepdad I had at the time and my mom moved us out of state and destroyed that dream. I just started skipping after that and dropped out as soon as I could. I eventually went back to school (luckily I got my GED as soon as I dropped out) so I could have a better life and future of some kind.

Structural steel/iron worker here... hours are long, the work is hard and dangerous as fuck and when shit gets going sometimes you don't get a day off for months... Or you get the opposite and you don't work for months lol

Kind of a 'feast or famine' kind of deal... Just went through a loooong and painful dry spell recently, but shits finally startin to pick up again around here, thank fuck.

Shit I was selling fucking hotdogs at the local bar for min wage for awhile there tryin to make ends meet, so glad that's over lol... Got a new Mad respect for people who work in kitchens and fast food for absolute shit wages and hardly any appreciation though, it was a lot more stressful than I imagined... I am definitely not cut out for that kinda shit :lol:

Good god, my first few weeks were absolutely terrifying, you sorta get used to it, but there's always those times where you can't tie yourself off to anything yet, and even with a harness and shit, you're still prolly gonna fuck yourself up pretty bad even if you don't die.

I work 12hr days with a 3 hour commute 4 days on 4 days off alternating between day and night shift. I get 11 alternative days a year, 6 sick days and accrue annual leave, so I work less than half the year. It looks good on paper but it is soul destroying.

I have zero college education and i have no work experience at 30. Even McDonald’s won’t Hire me. Not having a job just seems like the easier route right now. Also, I read online all the time about how people spend so so many hours working at McDonald’s or other related low paying jobs and still have absolutely no money. Why would I want to work at a crappy job for 8 hours a hour everyday just to have no money? They pay must suck. It’s easier for me to not work and not have any money, than break my back working and still have no money.

imagine living somewhere surrounded by millionaires but they only pay you min wage for 7 bucks
now people half my age make twice that but nothings changed, just the price on everything
i've been in school and working, so that's like 7 years of my life completely gone and I have no money even though my parents paid for college
i'm expected to buy a house for 300k, pay almost 400k in property taxes or sell it, pay 150k for heat and electricity
it simply isn't possible for people to do
and then they wonder why there's a 5 billion dollar deficit, everyone is leaving, my retirement plan is to die, I think about taking up ciggerette smoking sometimes to make it happen sooner

you should start saving up money, you at least need to have a car and a place to stay

college education is a big waste of money unless you want to be a nurse or something

try to get a skill so you can at least find a job when you don't have money
if they ask about work experience just lie

Dude you csn get a job if you put the effort in. I was exactly in your situation but not 30. Close though. Became homeless. Got a job homeless and still have that job . its all about how willing and motivated you are. Positive mindset brother. O did have 2 previous jobs before that at like 22 but they didnt last more than 2 weeks. One qas a sign holding job but i always took the sign home and came back when it was time to clock out so i never really held the sign. I had too nuch anxiety at the time.

I was basically in your shoes and got hired at a grocery store.

The lady who hired me said she usually doesn't call people in for interviews that don't introduce themselves in person so you could start doing that. Just work part time while you get an associate's in IT. That's my plan :cookiemonster:

But yeah it's bs that colleges are up to 55% women and they still expect every guy to have a 4 year degree or make at least 80 a year or w/e

LOL, you have no idea how life works. Kinda sad actually. I guess your parents and teachers didn't prepare you to be a decent person. For most people McDonalds is an entry level position. They don't work there forever. They get that job and then find something better and they keep doing that until they have skills.

I started at K-mart making like $5.20 an hour and lived on my own. Didn't have extra money for shit. I kept at it and worked hard and now I can make over $300,000 a year pretty easily.

That said, I usually am working on school for anywhere from 50-60 hrs/week, so there's not really time for a job.

That was 2001/2002 in Detroit. Life wasn't easy, but I struggled through it and made it better. There were times when I was literally thinking of taking the last of my money to buy a gun and start robbing people. Things were looking terribly bleak so I left it all behind and moved to Florida to work construction instead. Now, I was working twice as hard for only $7.20 an hour, but at least now I was learning a skill.

You can live on $10 an hour. It might not be a great life, but it can be done. When you live like that you really start to figure out the differences between needs and wants.

I've been an auto body technician for a year now. Sweet gig, learning a ton about cars, almost certified to work in any shop. So far best job I've had, keeps my mind and hands busy. Downside is it's unhealthy and constantly dangerous. So far just a little blood and a lot of bondo dust.

Not fruit picking, but when I was an electrician apprentice I worked a side gig as a farmer. I would build raised beds, till soil, dig up plants, plant plants, spread mulch, irrigation, fencing, and all that stuff. That was some hard ass work. I always have some kind of side business going along with my main job for extra money and to keep me busy and in shape.

its high desert. surrounded by mountains. hell yes to dirt bikes lol not many trees on my property but there are more trees on the mountains. there are several natural hot springs nearby. my brother and I are still deciding what we will do there. I want to farm but we have lots of different ideas. i really like the idea of building a small house there and retiring from the "world". we can use solar for energy and well for water.

I have a really crazy job now since feburary. Its got benefits 401k and I get to set my rules and how much they pay. No college degree was needed for it. Just confidence in my worth plus a verifiable track record of doing rare skilled labor machining.

It depends on your lifestyle, but it can definitely be done. You won't be renting a 1 bedroom apartment by yourself. You will have to make a lot of sacrifices until you can make more money. You could rent a couch on $10 an hour or share a place with a few friends.

When I was working at Kmart I shared an apartment with a girlfriend and when that went sour I rented an efficiency. If you're working minimum wage then you will probably need at least two jobs, or need to sell a few drugs, to live a lil comfy. If you want a nice future for yourself then you make a sacrifice here and there and do what needs to be done.

Thankfully I don't have parents that will support me and let me leech into my 30's and older.

I lived for for yrs with no legit job and sold drugs for my income but I stepped down from hustling 4.5 yrs ago now I work a job that doesnt pay the best but pays the bills and funds my festivals and shows I go to throughout the yr so its enough for my happiness.
Fast money was attractive to me when I was younger but once I got to be older I knew the next time I go to prison its gonna be much longer than the first time I went for selling ecstacy and pot back in 07 and I was just tired of always looking over my shoulder not knowing if today was the day I was gonna get busted or robbed. Thankfully I got out when I did cause it only got worse for the people I use to deal with after I got out. Now almost all of them are in federal prison for dealing I think maybe one might have dodged that bullet cause he was locked up when that big sting happened.
Def thankful I'm not chasing that money anymore shit aint worth it for me but def got respect for those who do shit someones gotta do it! :wink:

I consider drug dealing a job. I've never done it because from watching my firends deal seemed like too much trouble. Trying to meetup with people all day to make $5 on each bag of weed sold and risking jail.

Then if you want to go big time you can make some bank. Especially if you can get a block/corner in an open air drug market type area. Some of these places that I walk through you literally get 5 people circling you and saying "Buddy, what do you need?" Whoever is running those guys is definitely rich. The kind of rich where you can't even find places to store all your money.

I made a decent amount of money selling herb some years back. It was a part time job, but there were times that I'd make 100 - 150 bucks profit in one single transaction deal, and I'd do like 2-3 of those a day. Basically, buy lbs and sell quaps to lower tier dealers. Did it for a couple years never got in trouble with anyone.

I started mowing lawns when I was 10 yrs. old. Worked in a kennel 7 days a week after school and weekends when I was 12 and in a factory when I turned 18. I have been out of work a total of 2 weeks between the age of 10 and 59 yrs and have been part owner of a business for the past 33 yrs. It amazes me that so many here don't work and aren't even looking for work.
Hard work was once the mantra for success in this country and it appears that the only ones who believe this today are the immigrants that come from real poverty. Pretty sad, really. I'm not trying to down anyone here, but there seems to be a whole lot more entitlement in todays young'ns than there was in my generation. This is what I mean....you count yourself out before you even try. I made $1.50 /hr. working in a kennel and around $5.00/hr. in a factory. Barely living wage and I had a kid. You all think entry level positions are beneath you, lol. That shit factory job took me to a small office billing job and then a friend of mine and I convinced a venture capitalist that we had a great idea for a business because neither of us had any savings to invest.
We owed everybody money the first few years but eventually were able to overcome it by working our asses off.....qualities that seem to be few and far between in you millennials.

I think what some people consider peanuts and not much is still money coming in. A person can not start out at more than 12 bucks an hour without an associates degree at least (seems that way, I haven't researched it). Even a retail or restaurant/bar job is something. Yes, you will bust your ass seemingly for peanuts, but it is coming in (income). ANY income is good. It does suck gas and basic needs are way more expensive these days, but like a few others have stated you have to make certain decisions and do certain things to get to a certain place. It's all choices a person makes and decides where and what level in life they want to be. I wish I never had to work another day in my life, but I do it to keep the things I have and to have something when I either can retire, or I'm forced to.

well sometimes you have to leave your little town where no jobs exist and find a place where they do. i moved to nevada and entry level, no experience required, night shift at the tesla plant pays $20/hr to start. thats not bad for a bunch of 18 yr olds who work there. when i was 18 i was making $6/hr lol

This is what I mean....you count yourself out before you even try. I made $1.50 /hr. working in a kennel and around $5.00/hr. in a factory. Barely living wage and I had a kid. i moved to CA 4 years ago because wages were nearly double what they are in PA for the same jobs. people say CA is so expensive and thats not true. food is cheaper than PA, alcohol is cheaper, weed is cheaper, and the rental market is the same. yes it gets to be more expensive in LA or San Francisco but outside the major metropolitan areas apartments are relatively the same prices as i had seen in PA before i moved.

my best friend in PA was working as a plumber for almost 10 years (not making a whole lot of money) but then he joined a welders union apprenticeship (4 year program) and he makes now around $30-$40/hr at different job sites. he even asked to work in the office doing CAD drawings for projects but he said he liked being in the feild better than the office so he went back to that.

Yeah.  I remember my brothers friend from the East where he worked during a time under labor unions and talking about just throwing whatever he wanted to in his cart grocery shopping.  With a wife and the American dream, because it is a dream, fake, and then moved to a RIGHT TO WORK STATE, lol.

Work in higher management. Got a huge increase in salary this year, almost €1000 a month extra after taxes. For some reason its just as gone by the end of the month as previous years.

Two kids and my partner doesnt work at all. We live in a smallish appartment that is almost mortgage free. I have a shit car and a cheapass motorcycle. But we go abroad for holidays 6 to 7 weeks a year and I am actually shopping for a Rolex. When I turn 40 in a couple years imma buy myself a nice watch :snub:

I do landscaping. Hard work but I get to be outside, it keeps me in shape, and I work for a good friend. Don't have to people much. $16 an hour which is the best legal money I've ever made and I inherited a house so things are working out pretty good.

Luck played a small part, I think my willingness to wake up at 3am and do an extremely hot/dusty/noisey job for 12 hours getting paid fuck all got me here. I remember when I started all my colleagues laughed at me and called me an idiot, but I just put my head down and worked harder now I'm their boss.

I am lucky I'm in my early 20s and physically fit though

I don't think it's luck. A lot of people show up to work and do the bare minimum becuase they think they are underpaid or underappreciated or a "slave." When the boss sees someone show up and work circles around everybody else, go above and beyond, show up early and leave late, and trying to learn as much as possible, then the boss will pay to keep you around.

When I took my first job in this state I was making $24 an hour. Before the end of my first shift I already got, I think, it was a $6 an hour raise. I quit after 18 months and was the head guy making over $42 an hour and the boss was offering me much more to stay on board. You have to work hard and play the cards you are dealt the best you can. If you aren't being appreciated for your hard work then go to the competitor and work for them.

Been in IT for about 12 years. Right now Im a Network Admin at a large non-profit. We're an addiction and behavioural health facilty in 5 states. Its a pretty sweet gig. My office is in FL, my boss is in Indiana, so they pretty much leave me alone so long as my work is getting done. Have a 2 year degree and a couple certifications. IT is a good field in that its needed everywhere. I moved from MD to FL a few years ago and had no problem getting a job when I got here. I'll probably be relocating again in a couple more years. As long as we're not in a bad recession, I dont see myself having a problem finding a job then either.

I push the same sort of buttons for money. Work for an international primary food manufacturer. Nice little site I look after with a couple of hundred workstations, plenty of scientific and industrial applications to keep things interesting.

You'll need an IT guy to work on your refrigerator sooner or later.

I like being the one dealing with the hardware. Once it's up on the network anyone in the world can work on the programming. Usually India and very hard to understand.

All the jobs say they want this and that but tbh some idiot just came up with a job posting that sounded good and it's little more than that.

You can circumvent a lot of requirements by having substitutes and, more importantly, networking.

Most people don't have their jobs in the middle field because of their credentials. They have their jobs because they knew someone on the inside.
