Hey yall,
I've lurked around here for a long while and this year attempted my first grow. I needed a grow that could be easily moved around and not take up alot of space, so I settled on Shoe boxes. Finally, after a few unsuccessful BRF jar inoculations with different strains, I successfully inoculated BRF 8 jars with Cambodia Syringe. The 8 jars colonized at different rates (because of the amount of inoculate per jar I'm assuming ?) so I had to spawn them at different times too to avoid consolidation.
Coco was prepped using Bod's tek on 4/10, and used for each of the 3 tubs used below. All tubs are kept near a window and receive ambient daylight, and are not getting big drafts or temperature changes
1st Tub (spawned 4/10/19) -1 BRF jar spawned to straight coco (2:1 Coco to 1 Cake). -Light layer of coco put on top -2.5 Sterilite Tub used (Would've liked to use a latch lid or tighter fitting lid/Tub design, but could only find this particular model everywhere. These seem alot looser fitting.) -this cake had been at 100% colonized for about 4 days at least before i Could get to it. The cake seemed solid, smelled ok, maybe a lil on denser side. Nothing bad about it stood out to me.
1st tub 4/13

1st tub 4/22 Small tub seemed a bit dry-misted Generously with water and left alone. Colonization seemed to be coming along fine? Top layer had started to be colonized too.

1st tub 4/27 Now Im confused. What would cause the corners to better colonize than the middle? Are the conditions great on the sides of the tub? Also, Is pin formation normal around this time for the amount of spawn I used?

At this time, tub was misted generously, then fanned, then lid was closed.
Since it is now pinning, I need to increase FAE and ensure the surface doesn't dry out right? Any suggestions with this tub type on how to do so-Should I leave the lid cracked instead of closed, or put a grocery bag over it, or leave closed as is since there looks like enough vertical space for fruits to grow?
2nd Tub (Spawned 4/16) -2:1 ratio (2 cakes used) -Light casing layer used -6 qt shoebox
2nd Tub 4/22

3rd tub (Spawned 4/22) -2:1 ratio (2 cakes used) -No casing layer used -6 qt shoebox
3rd tub 4/28 Seems to be coming along nicely-Im still trying to get the hang of understanding proper surface conditions at this point, and it seemed like it needed a misting.

The substrate appears to be coming away from the container sides-Is it "shrinking"? Is this normal?

Sorry if this is a bit unorganized, I had to put it together quickly. Any input or advice on if these are being managed properly would be appreciated! Thanks for all of the teks and info.
