Long term storage in baggies

Is there anything that inherently makes standard ziploc storage bags inferior for long term storage compared to something else like glass jars or sturdier plastic containers? I’ve been storing dried fruits in those bags with desiccant packs. If they potentially were to sit for many months should I upgrade the container?
Also I’ve read people vacuum seal dried fruits. Based on my experience with other items a good vacuum sealer can be like a trash compactor to the items inside the bag. Do the fragile dried fruits not just get crushed into dust? That is what I’d anticipate.

Just use a plastic lunch box/tub with desiccant packets along with them and you can keep them dry for years.

It’s hard to beat vacuum sealing in my opinion. You don’t have to vacuum it so tight that it crushes the fruits, I do the same thing with large quantities of bud, u just vacuum it and seal it befor it crushes everything

If you do a lot the price of vac sealing would be ridiculous. I use 2.5gallon bags, double bagged, with 2 5gram moisture absorbing packs in every # for peace of mind.
Anyone who's done this long enough to forget a single bagged qp in a box and find it six or nine months later with zero potency it suuuucks.
I agree food saver or glass would be the iron clad solution.

I think a lot get lost in translation when folks say ziplock without clarifying which type. The storage bags work. I use ziplock gallon storage bags and double bag them. But I vacuum seal them if i end up with a bunch and want them to last a long long time.
Filthy, where do you come by these huge bags? Also, I've never put oxygen absorbents in mine. I just make sure they are totally dry (check the fattest one and keep drying until it quits losing weight.
And yes, the vac seal will crush the dry fruits if you let it do it's thing. I just let it vac until i see it's about to start crushing and then manually hit the seal button.

Oxygen absorbers and moisture absorbers are different.
Neither one would hurt, but I would think that a desiccant(moisture absorber) would help the most to keep them from going soft again.

Iv kept mine in gallon ziploc storage bags for a while, over 1.5 years and they were still crunchy when I opened them. I tried generic storage bags and they didn't seal up like the ziploc bags the fruits were kinda spongy after a few months.

Ah, the "hefty jumbo slider" bags? I never tested them out cause i didn't think the slider would seal properly. You vouche for them huh. single bag or double? An elbow has got to fit quite nicely in one of those.

Thanks for the pro tip on vac sealing. Sounds like double bagging with ziploc storage gallon bags and vac sealing when necessary is a good option.
I use 5 gram silica gel packs. I check the weight before putting them in the bags then check every few days. Will replace if they soak up more than a gram of moisture.

Doubling Ziploc bags does not change the fact they have tiny holes in them. If you want to use bags get some bags made for hardware storage, they actually seal airtight. Bag and freeze. I prefer a jar for short term. I keep a 50 gram desicant pack in mine.

For loooooong term I'd do glass or vac sealer with moisture packs.
For medium storage/those with a lot to store MY solution is double bag with the packets. Being very careful in handling, bags go strait into a garbage bag and into a clean tote, I am 100% there are no holes.
Beating a dead horse now.

Besides who's keeping them around long enough for them to go to shit anyway. A storage bag keeps em fine for months if you use good bags
