Just bought a kit, not that I plan on actually using it in the way the kit tells me to... I bought some extra straw to add to the straw i have already for substrate, and I'm going to case it in a big green tupperware container with coco coir and verm (7:3)... Anyways, the kit comes with a pint-sized (at least) fully colonized bird seed to innoculate the straw. Would it be possible to save a good 10-12 grains from it and use it to innoculate some PC'd jars for later casing ops?

I'm an antidisestablishmentarianist, are you?

Yes you can do a Grain 2 grain transfer to new jars, but you have to do it in a glove box.You cant just do it in open air.You can also shoot 10ccs of sterile water into your colonized birdseed jar, shake it up,then draw the water back out into a syringe. Now you have a liquad culture syringe to knock up jars with. This can be done without a glove box if you are sterile about things.

Butternut squash are softer than acorn or other types of squash, which makes them easier to cut and prepare.
