Are These Mushrooms Bad?
    #25956891 - 04/26/19 01:45 PM (5 years, 8 months ago)

Fuzzy/Powdery Stem?

Got some shrooms and I noticed two stems had this powdery white fuzz on them. Wanted to post this here to identify if these are safe for consumption.

Looks like "fuzzy feet" it's normal and there are a lot of varying opinions as to why it happens but no solid evidence. Yes they are safe, the Mycelium just grew up the stem some. My personal thoughts are this happens with aggressive genetics. Breeding the mycelium to colonize quickly causes this to happen. Most people think it is FAR but I can confirm this is wrong,  I even tried timed air exchange, healthy fruits with fuzzy feet.

Thanks!  It was the first time I ever saw this, so I was concerned.  Can I pick you brain on one more thing?

I noticed this stem - which also seemed unusual (at least from what i am used to eating).

Also good?  I wish I knew more about this stuff.  I've tripped a bunch of times, but still really don't know how to correctly identify what's okay and what's not.  are there a few golden rules to follow?

there is evidence fuzzy bases are caused by lack of FAE fan more if you don't want them but they are not problematic

If you grab a stem from that bag and attempt to bend it,does it snap at the point of stress or is there a little give to it? Future reference, don't buy mushies that have been stored in a plastic bag and don't store them in one if you've grown them yourself. They allow both oxygen and humidity in which will at the very least cause oxidation.

Fuzzy feet can be either environmental or genetic. Don't drive yourself crazy overdoing fae or fanning(which no up to date tek that I'm aware of calls for anyway) just because it's showing up.
