Two different strains - two different colonizations.
    #25954766 - 04/25/19 01:51 PM (5 years, 8 months ago)

Just wanted to have an opinion on these with some new eyes that are familiar with growth!

This is my second go from my last project. I took clones out of my last project and now going to grow them out! The other strain is one I used ms>agar>grain.

B+&Haluta(or however its spelled). Anyway.. you can see there are two different types of growth from each strain (obviously). The picture shows B+ along side of the other strain.. and continues in that order(B+,haluta,B+,Haluta)*sorry for butchering the other strains name. Too lazy to look it up*

I can tell the haluta strain is completely colonized. As for the B+, I do believe they're all fully colonized. They just dont have that "full" look that the other strain is showing. I've got 9 jars.. and each of the haluta looks the same, and all of the other b+ jars look the same as these photos show. Would you guys agree?

My camera actually makes the b+looks more grainy actually.. than it does to the naked eye. But anyway.. do you guys agree that these are pretty much ready to go Saturday?

Thanks you beautiful people!

Third jar has an uncolonized grain right  at the top.

Different varieties/clones will have different looking myc, also contamination like bacteria can make the myc thick and puffy. Not saying thats for sure whats causing your hualata to look different but could be, its minimal if it is, but there looks to be some yellowing metabolites on the far right jar which is definitely a sign of bacteria. Those look pretty much ready to me for sure by saturday they’ll be done. Just make sure there isn’t a speck of uncolonized grain anywhere. You’ll get used to what cultures are supposed to look like through experience working with them.

Myc also seems to grow differently depending on the geometry of the object it is on. At points, it will look like its shooting out, and rounded edges will also make the myc appear more rounded. I actually want to take the time to layer grains differently sometime in my sub to see if I can notice any differences in pin formation, or just patterns in substrate based on angles.

There's a bit of moisture in there, which could just come from the myc colonizing or them sitting in direct sun. If you can move them to a slightly dryer/cooler place they may be happier. Other than that you're looking good boo (well, and that weird uncolonized grain).

Hey thanks for the replies! I'm assuming the yellow that you see is just the agar I had in there. I've shaken it a few times and the agar kind of broke down and dispersed into other parts of the jar. I cleaned them up very well on agar. Sp I hope that's not the case of bacteria

Also - the moisture has just started appearing as more of the jar has been colonized. So I'm assuming in the heat that the myc is giving off causing the moisture.

I'm going to spawn them Saturday morning then! Super excited. First time cloning and cleaning up myc on agar! Definitely a fun experience and trying to learn as I go and ask questions as I become more curious as to how things looks!

You guys are awesome!
