A very dumb question

This is a very stupid idea from an ‘extremely unaccomplished beyond the basics’ cultivator but would it be possible to add in something inert with your substrate? Just for a novelty factor, that is. Like if you put in a fair amount of broken up gold foil and mixed it in evenly at the point where you add spawn to the substrate wouldn’t the mycelium incorporate the foil and wouldn’t there be a chance that a mushroom fruits with gold flecks in it? Again, just curious, not planning a goldschlager cube grow or anything

Actually as far as i know yes. There are trees in Australia that have micro amounts of gold in the leaves cuz there is an assload of gold deep in the ground where they grow.
I knw everything about gold. Try me.

Excited for goldschlager cube grow
Mushrooms can take up heavy metals so it's possible I suppose

It will remain in the substrate unless the mycelium metabolize it, right? I'm leaning towards expecting it to remain.

Mushrooms have been known to absorb heavy metals.

You wud need to look very deep into the shroom fibers, like super magnified to find very very minute gold particles...but i believe it wud be there.
Im thnking you wud have to get the gold that microscopic in the first place though. So that it cud be physically absorbed as a heavy metal, not broken down, and basically exist along with water and shit in the shroom.
As far as i know there is only one mixture that can break down and liquify gold at room temp and that is Aqua Regia and that shit is a super acid.

No. I mean you might find some in the mycelium/substrate stuck to the base if you ripped it out but that's not actually part of the mushroom. Fruit bodies develop on the surface of the substrate so there's no substrate inside them.

That's actually a really good question lol. That would be pretty dope. But as said above.. they grow from the surface. That's what I was thinking in my head.. but who knows.
Trial and error. That would be a fun experience if you got an extra tub youd like to play with. Keeps the hobby fun(always is though).
