A2G drop
    #25954120 - 04/25/19 06:11 AM (4 years, 10 months ago)

today i droped some clean agar wedges into rye grain.. i believe every single person who done that had problem with agar wedge wont fall from the scalpel.. for those wedges that wont drop even with scalpel shaking i used inside of polyfill filter to slide scalpel against it.. i don't see any new vector doing it like this, that side of the filter should really be sterile and if you think about that, that spot of the lid is not exposed at all if you just lift your jar lid for scalpel to come through.. do i miss something? is that good practice? because its way more easier and smoother for me
Thanks!

Sounds good better than the side of the jar.

Try scooping instead of stabbing.

Pour some plates to practice with. You can drop in empty jars until you have it down perfect. I used to practice every step of SAB work until I could do it flawlessly. Then I use live cultures and do it for real. Lol

Helped me tremendously.

lol, this happened to me last time. Fuckers wouldnt fall, and I scoop for just this reason. Its even worse for WBS since they dont weigh much so you have to really dig deep to get enough push on the wedge. Filter should be fine IMO, anywhere inside should be. Its a moist chamber where you steamed food and will be shaking around once or twice, if contamination is going to get in there tapping a wedge anywhere inside doesnt seem like its going to make a big difference. I just try not to touch the handle to anything since that doesnt get flamed, only alcohol.

Use wide mouth 1/2 pint jars instead.  If you ever did pf-tek, you should have them laying around.  I stopped using 1/4 pint jars for agar for the exact reason you’re talking about.

when i was doing PF i had to use tall 1/2 pints or those 1/4 pint I'm using for agar now, because, again.. in my country finding wide mouth empty 1/2 pint jar is mission for tom fucking cruise. sad but true..

awe I see man.  We all gotta make due with what’s available to us.  I see no reason why your improvisation wouldn’t work.  I made the 1/4 pints work too, but it was a hassle.  Best thing I can suggest, besides your method, would be to cut larger slices (so they are heavier) and only use the very tip of the scalpel while scooping at the most severe angle your jar will allow.  This kinda turns into a balancing act between jars, but if the jars are close together, it shouldn’t be too hard.  Much better then having the agar stuck to your scalpel and then digging around, trying to remove it.

The only problem with cutting bigger slices is you might not be able to isolate a sector you want.
