We have been conditioned as a society to value compromise, however, there are many questions that have a singular answer.  In these situations, the ideal solution is binary and any compromise can serve only to move from the "correct" column to "incorrect".  This leads to conflict that is essentially intractable via compromise and common ground.  A good example is the abortion issue that has been brought up ITT.  It isn't really an issue that someone with strong feelings either way is likely to waffle on.  IMO, which i have expressed many times, the best manoeuvre is to island hop these issues and make moves on other issues where common ground actually exists.

This is exactly why you lack nuance, Boss. Democrats aren’t out there having unprotected sex with zero birth control indulging in late term abortions for the fun of it. Pro-abortion doesn’t exist, and Democrats have the lowest rates of unexpected pregnancies. On top of that, abortions are at an all time low (thanks Obama). Your argument is built on nonsense.

I hope you don’t eat multicellular life without understanding that it didn’t make the decision to die, you did. Alas, considering the nuance is too tough to swallow.

I'm not sure what could bridge that divide because although the problems are of concern to everyone, people look at those problems through radically different filters. Ultimately I think the right needs to turn their focus onto destroying the power and wealth of the elites, rather than destroying "undesirables". That structural change is one thing, then we can squabble about the more particular details. But when the right tends to be more ok with colonialism, imperialism etc as a symbol of western pride, how do you deprogramme what capitalism has brainwashed us with?
