May have parasite
    #25953087 - 04/24/19 03:37 PM (5 years, 8 months ago)

I am a first time cultivator. Just saw this today in my brf jars. I was hoping an experienced grower can enlighten me. I am guessing this is an issue. I have removed 2 jars from the incubation room. If this is a parasite, is it likely to spread or already have?
Or, am I dense and inexperienced observing a natural occurrence?

If anything it's a contamination. Looks like mycelium pressed against the glass. Also how would it spread if its in a jar and that jar has a filter and lid. If it could just hop into the next jar all your jars would be fucked from all the natural contaminants in the air we breathe

You're right. It won't hop from jar to jar. I should have asked if the room was likely contaminated. I am hoping that it is mycelium being pressed, but without ever having seen it before, and my expect the worst attitude, I felt compelled to query without a complete set of questions formed.
When it comes down to it, I think I just need to know if the specimens are contamination, or if its natural incubation. I can manage the rest of the grow having that information.
If I can positively identify a contaminant, then would be the time to inquire about its nature and prevention.

Also, done some reading, and a lot or research but have never encountered the term stone before.

Philosopher stones. They grow these "nodes" that look like stones instead of mushroom fruits.

Could be an infection but it also looks like a mutant blob in there :strokebeard:

So 3 of ten jars are forming this. On;y one looks worrisome as it has a brownish color to it. The other nodey things growing remain white.
With that exception noted, it does not seem infectious, but problematic just the same as they (the nodes) are slowly growing.
My cam has a long focal plane, so close up photos are damn near impossible. Please excuse the poor resolution.

Likely just invitro pinning, but impossible for me to be confident on that with the finish that jar has. It looks like you're fully colonized/ in the consolidation phase, so I wouldn't lose sleep over it, but in the future, when running pf tek, avoid tilting your jars. That disrupts the dry verm layer allowing contaminants to find their way into your grow.

That's mushies growing in there. Time to birth it. I don't know why all this consolidation advice is always given, the professionals birth at 90 percent colonization to prevent in vitro pinning.

Tilting is fine if the vermiculite layer was applied correctly, don't go too crazy and never shake a vermiculite barrier jar though, that can cause serious issues.
