Lids
    #25952058 - 04/24/19 01:26 AM (5 years, 8 months ago)

Hey guys, I am looking to upgrade all my metal lids to plastic. Mainly because I heard its easier to unscrew them in the SAB, and I am sick of working with my rusted out metal lids I have now. So heres my question..

I have been searching for lids from the suppliers list on this site, as well as on amazon and such. I read that the basic plastic ones you can get from Walmart and target ect will not stand up to pressure cooking. Looking at some customized lids with injection ports and what-not they look..well exactly like the ones from Walmart and stuff except with the plugs already installed and like 5 times more cost haha. Searched the forums for lids and got a bunch of tecs to like drill holes and stuff...but couldnt really find if those plastic ones from the grocery stores will work.

So, to those of you that use plastic lids did you just get the basic like ball plastic lids stuff or did you order special shiz from the vendors? I apologize in advance if this has been asked 9324 times and I just was too stupid to search properly, open to any suggestions

The ones sold in the canning section of walmart and target, etc...are for that purpose and will work fine for pressure cooking. You can buy the injection ports on amazon or on the myco sites. Lids are super easy to make. If you can drill a hole you're good to good!

Plastic Ball lids from Wal-Mart, etc work fine. Make your own 1" sfd's from full size ones.

Right on, thanks guys I was hearing mixed reviews about not to use them for pc. Though they were propably referring to actual canning not grain prep haha

i use regular white plastic lids you get at walmart and they work great and are cheap too.

as far as pcing i havent had any issues and ive ran my lids at least 10 times through the pc plus my dishwasher between sterilizations.

i have them built with a ship and a cutout of sfd attached with red rtv. pretty simple and easy to manage.

They are not meant for actual canning because they often do not seal completely. They are fine for myco purposes because we do not seal our grain jars.
