The season is underway in Otago! Went out for a forage today and found these beauties
P. Semilanceata
P. Makarorae?
I'm unsure about the Makarorae ID, they might be Subaeruginosa. Found in Manuka scrub

Habitat Shots:
With these images alone it's impossible to say what it is other than it belongs in the genus Psilocybe, it could be Psilocybe subaeruginosa or P. makarorae, microscopy and DNA data is needed.

Oh damn, good find! Was this in Dunedin or elsewhere in Otago? I might have to go check my further afield spots. Definitely hoping Dunedin will be popping off though after the rain this coming weekend!

They were found in the Dunedin region, on the outskirts of the city. None of the spots i know of in the city are producing yet. Yeah, hopefully we'll be seeing more action after the rain this weekend!

Thank you Yeah I always thought they were subs too, until a friend suggested they might be makas. It's hard to tell with all the different subaeruginosa phenotypes out there. I have noticed the one's picked from this patch aren't quite as potent as subs I've picked elsewhere, but perhaps that's just genetics

weather looks good here in auckland, we had a freakish storm pissing down rain, hoping it will flush out the shrooms, just waiting for cooler temperatures.

Auckland!! Subs I'm sure!
I'll just note it's a good idea to pinch the mushroom off instead of pulling them up as it can kill the patch.

4 hours wandering around wellington/hutt bush, no luck Maybe I should just drive around looking for wood chip areas after it rains next?
Edit: I did walk past literally hundreds of Amanita muscaria though, but i dont suppose its a good idea to eat them
