pH for casing.

How imperative is it to increase the pH of the casing mix? My goldfish is using black dixie cups, should I add some lime to the upper verm layer? Or is it not as imperative, some Stamets info would be great. (I need the book!)

straight vermiculite (or even with coco coir) requires no ph adjustment. mainly casings with peat moss requires lime as a ph buffer.
