Monotub w/ waterbath, possible low FAE?

Hi, this is my fourth or fifth monotub but the first time Ive used a waterbath. Ive used rye grain, inoculated amazonian and used coir/verm as substrate. Due to low temps I decided to try a waterbath to kick the temperature a few degrees up. Upon full colonisation of the substrate (29ºC / 84F) I put it into fruiting conditions increasing FAE and turned off the heater. But due to the ambient temperature being to low (18ºC / 73ºF) it had been over a week since putting it into fruiting conditions and no change. I decided to turn on the water heater again and currently internal temperature of the mono at 23ºC at substrate surface. Ive done zero misting.

This is the first time Ive seen small drops and pools of water on the mycelium and Im not sure if its because of the waterbath (Im pretty sure it is) or low FAE. Im worried Im stunting the shrooms growth as there are various pins but they dont look as good as I remember them to (its been over 8 months since my last grow).

Can anyone shed some light on this?

Water drops are fine, pools not fine, I would probably just open them up for a while to let some of that water to evaporate. I probably would just use a regular mono without the water bath next time.

Ive never heard of a monotub water bath. Is this a thing?

Is the sub in the water, or is it in another container in the water.

Ok thanks, Ive opened the box up. You wouldnt suggest using the tip of a folded paper towel to soak up the little pools of water? I know coir is contam resistant and is 100% colonised but I dont want to push my luck with the mono

No I dont think so. I remember seeing a waterbath type thing with two boxes as an "incubator" for grain spawn colonisation but I dont recall seeing a monotub waterbath. Its the only thing I could think of to up the temp of the mono a few degrees, in my area we had good temps a couple of weeks ago but the temps have been unusually low lately.

Theres probably a very good reason why it isnt a thing, probably because theres a temperature gradient from the water thats at 27ºC to the surface of the sub which is at 23ºC. Im sure those 4ºC degrees going from the bottom and sides of the substrate to the top surface affect it negatively somehow.

During the day the hottest it gets is 18ºC / 73ºF, and after a week of being put into fruiting conditions it had not changed at all. I remember my last grows were around the 24ºC mark for fruiting and they took no time at all, really pleased with the results. So I decided to use a waterbath.

Was I being impatient in wanting to raise the temperature to get faster growth? If they'd be fine at 18ºC I'll just turn off the water heater and save myself the extra trouble of condensation.

It was a bit of an experiment / being impatient

68-72F is great for cubes 65-75 is fine

Well then that settles it, I've turned off the water heater. Before me getting experimental on the mono, I based it (and all the previous ones) on your Unmodified Monotub TEK. Thanks for all the work putting together that tek and all the others, a great resource! :thumbup:
