ID REQUEST - POSSIBLE OVOIDS PNW

Hey pals!

I went out searching for psilocybe ovoideocystidiata today, I've heard they are in season and especially widespread in Washington so my hopes were high. Came across this patch pictured below, and after comparing them with other ovoid pictures I felt confident enough to pick them.


I'm still waiting for the spore prints to develop but here are some better shots of the mushrooms. As you can see the caps on the larger ones are cracked, which I haven't seen in any ovoid pics before, but think it could just be from the sun today. Formula: 0







Would love to get some opinions from more experienced foragers before getting too excited, please let me know what you think!

Ah bummer, is it the shape of the cap that you guys identified as being different from those of an ovoid? Still very new to foraging and could use as many tips as I can get

The cracked caps and the lack of blue bruising are the two main giveaways. Also, oviods will have a hygrophanous cap, which means they will be darker and more translucent when wet, drying paler, but will often retain a darker translucent-striate edge to the cap.

Ovoids will also stink. It's unmistakable. Once you get the nose for them you don't even have to pick with your eyes. They smell foul if you don't like mushrooms.

If I smell Allysum flowers, they better smell like ovoids. :lol:

I'm starting to wonder if parks are digging up patches more because of the "stench" being around such public areas. It's really very strong here. Not sure how it is for you folks but it hits me like a ton of bricks. A handful of them in the dehydrator smells up the house.

Haha, they probably won't, sense of smell is subjective and everyone perceives it differently, when I had mycelium from that species it instantly reminded me of Allysum flowers, it's quite different to many of the other Psilocybe species.

Are you joking? You don't get carpets of them, do you? The wind carries their smell quite a ways. Hundreds of them cause quite the pungent odor and the wads of mycelium before they fruit have a strong odor. I just smelled a patch from my car last week creeping into a park and still had to forage them. If this is your call out harassment troll campaign bullshit then kindly fuck off.
