Attempt 2 at GT BRF cakes * 1
    #25951028 - 04/23/19 02:56 PM (4 years, 11 months ago)

Hello everyone,
I'm going to be attempting another grow this week after my last one failed.  I am going to use GT spore syringes to BRF cakes.  I'm going to be prepping my cakes tonight and then inoculating them tomorrow afternoon.  Thank you to anyone who is following my thread.

Jars ate in the pressure cooker.

Just inoculated my jars with GT.  Hopefully I'll see some growth by next weekend to post pictures of.

Update 5/8
3 of my 6 jars with nice mycelium growth.

I've got a few jars that will be 100% colonized by next week.  I will upload pictures when they are all white of mycelium.  Thank you to everyone following my grow.

I've got two jars that are 100% covered. They will be ready to birth next week.  I also have a 2 that have about a week left for 100% colonized and then my tall boy will be ready in about 2 weeks.

Got 3 out of my 5 jars in the fruiting chamber.

Cut this big SOB this evening and put it in the dehydrator.

Good luck ... if you have the free time look into agar and do some research you will find it relaxing and better suit for our needs

At what stage did you fail last time?

Yeah, I'll be starting agar work this coming month.  I've got about 20 petri dishes right now. All I need is to get the agar and nutes for doing plates.  Someone told me I can just use my left over brown rice flower as the nutrients for the plates. I'm hoping to do a bulk grow in a few months after I get the things I need to do bulk.  I need to get bigger jars and oats.

I lost my jars to contamination about a week after inoculation, so maybe I got ahead of myself and didn't sterilize the jars long enough.  Last time I did them for about 90mins in my pressure cooker.  Was that too long or not long enough?

That's plenty long. Maybe your spores were contaminated or your inoculation process was the problem.

Yeah I wonder if it was the spores.  They were almost 9 months old.  But I got some fresher ones I'm using this time.  I'm just doing something to stay busy in the hobby until I get some agar going next month.

You should be able to find agar and nutes relatively easy.

What is the best to use for nutes?  I know what type of agar I'm going to use but unsure of what nutes to use.  Can i just use brown rice flower, or do I need something that has more nutes in it than brf?

We may never know to be honest. Take your time and clean everything very good and you should be okay. How did you do your lids?

Okay just make sure you put micro tape or tyvek over the holes

Yeah, me too. Microtape on PF jars is sort of unnecessary. However, it could help with preventing cake water loss

Well I do all my jars that way and make a injection port with silicone.

I use potato flakes (Idahoan brand plain instant potatoes, but I'm sure any will work.) You can also use light malt extract, I've heard dog food even.  But I've only used potato and it has worked so far for me.
