Have I been drying mushrooms wrong?

Hi guys
I have grown my first mushrooms but I don't think I did dry them the right way. I have put some silica gel in an air tight container - and put my mushrooms in a paper towel on them, and let them like that for days in my closet. I would open the container every day and let some air in. I didn't dry with a fan beforehand.
After like 7 days they weren't very dry so I figured I'm doing it the wrong way - so I dried them with a fan today and now they are pretty dry - but I am worried that I might have ruined my mushrooms already by not drying them fast enough. Or maybe I should have placed them in the fridge while drying?
This is what they look like now:

I just read that you can get botulism on your mushrooms and now I'm kind of scared and don't want to have these thoughts while I'm tripping so I decided to ask if you guys think it's safe to eat them.
Thanks

Yes, unfortunately you have been drying them wrong. The silica gel in an air right container plays a role when the mushrooms are already dry.(storage purposes) Leaving them in open air conditions and fanning them periodically will do the trick. Or a dehydrator.

Thanks for the reply. So you think I have ruined them? Is it safe to eat them or shall I just throw them away?

I use a dehydrator. Their not super expensive. Make tea out of them if you are worried but I would eat them.

You can use high temps to dry them. Using desiccant to dry them is an outdated method, when we thought you would have potency loss from heat, theory proven wrong. Getting them dry quickly is important. Use a food dehydrator. I dry mine at 120° for 20 hours, a lot of people do them a lot hotter. No telling if those are trash, they look bad. How do they smell. If your going to get good at this you’ll end up throwing some mushrooms away, so don’t worry too much about it.

Thanks for the advices. They smell kind of like roquefort cheese. I will through them away though unless you guys suggest some safe way to consume them.

They look bad. I left one in a bag once by accident and it looked similar to yours (a little worse since it had rotted more). This was after trying to dry it in a dehydrator, but not doing so for long enough.
I made lots of mistakes on that one. I would suggest not consuming them or researching making tea and seeing if that is a safe alternative with these.
