As long as the static pressure/resistance is 0.6"w.g. or higher it'll work fine. The only drawback to deeper filters is how much bigger and heavier the whole box has to be.

I figured it does work fine. The info about why you need a higher resistance didn't seem to have any testing behind it. Besides that the 12 inch filters aren't specifically made for flow hoods.

I didn't find anything about static resistance. Only this graph.

Which at my airflow needed of around 500 CFM, the resistance is just a little over 0.4" wg. Maybe I'm looking it wrong

Just finished this flowhood - 24 x 24. The orange box on top is a 3d printed blower enclosure-prefilter.

Specs: Dayton 1TDT8 blower 797/549 cfm, Astrocel 24 x 24 x 5 7/8" HEPA filter, 3M Filtrete hammock filter material for pre-filter
I have the blower wired at low speed and it passes the lighter test, but waiting on a cheap anemometer to actually measure the airflow.

That's the size I want for my next hood. If you don't mind me asking...where did you source your filter?

I shelled out the extra loot for one from fungi perfecti, not the best price but convenient and no second guessing whether its the right one. I did not buy their fan because its just a marked up dayton. I had a hard time determining where they get their filters though so

Nice! I know the filter you are referring to because I've had it bookmarked for 6 months. That is gonna be so nice having a big hood like that.

First build was 18x24 second was 24x24 and just finishing up a 24x36. Only one more step to make and I’m at the top of the line lol. Still havent attemped a bag to bag transfer tho.
Built this one for cordyceps, gonna be noc’ing up as many jars as I can at a time using an LC dispenser gun. Using a brown rice based sub that I’ll be “sterilizing” using a 55 gallon atmospheric steam sterilizer. Gonna try other containers too but starting with jars and maybe try a run of shoe boxes in unicorn bags. Gonna put the garage to work

Cool. Is that Astrocel filter a 99.99 or 99.97? I could only find a 99.97 online that was 6" deep.

It's the 99.97. I ended up buying it all from Amazon because my head was hurting from the effort of trying to source stuff.
