It’s preferable to transfer a fully colonized plate to grain. Once you open an incomplete plate you are risking not being able to use that plate again later. If you are confident in your ability you can transfer a a wedge to grain, but only if there aren’t any apparent competing molds present. If you see competition on a plate it is more advisable to transfer a mycelium wedge to another plate.

When you’re sure its clean, at least 2-3 transfers after the germ plate. Look at stros cleaning and isolating guide for what a clean plate looks like, none of those look ready but hard to tell for sure from those pictures. Thats the only downside to pasty plates IMO, poor visibility.

I would Isolate further, I see some fluff ball in there and several segments. You'll get better results by isolating a single strain. Your current myc looks like a crapshoot.

I was thinking that too professor. If you can see the couple little chunks missing from the middle plate, that's what I did with that one. One more question, if I take a few segments from a plate, what do I do with the plate with the missing sections?? Do I leave to keep growing? Or keep it till it's all used up from transfers???

Stack em in a pile till your ready to clean it out, if it pins quickly, drop that pin to another playe and you know you have a quick fruiting culture.
