well we work at grocery store and are both clerks

one time every checkstand had a bagger and I just got off my break so I started asking people if they need a break and this guy is like "why do you want to know? are you trying to take people's bagging duties?" like lol wtf yes I am just take your break if you need one

then another time I was bagging for a lady and she was being playful with me and she needed a carryout so I'm walking out with her and the guy comes up and is like "I got this, just go back to bagging" and then apparently he told her that he has "seniority" so he would be helping her out instead of me. Like he felt like I was taking his courtesy clerk thunder or something

so he has like a 5th grade mentality but can pass as a functioning adult, just the way he speaks you can tell he's like 10% slower than a typical adult

then there's a couple other people like some lady who's a checker and can't help herself from correcting you over everything if you don't do things to her specification, which is different than anyone else's. Like she wont let anything slide if it isn't the way she thinks is right, you can't just focus on work when you're around her.

All of his colleagues are probably going home and complaining to their families, friends and internet forums about the socially-inept neckbeard at work who thinks he's smarter than everyone else, but really isn't.

He may be intellectually disabled but instead you consider yourself a mental health professional and decided he knows exactly what he is doing  “which is fucking nothing by the way” ur just being incredibly whiny and inconsiderate. So the fuck what if a co worker asks how you’re doing? He doesn’t know you feel put on the spot you haven’t said a damn thing about it. Try and consider a posiibly real disability that you should learn to work with and around. If you are wrong and he is mentally disabled which sounds likely then all the sudden you’re the one being a dick so please consider it.

If someone asked if I was alright all the time, id just shake my head up in down with this crooked smile on my face, itll get awkward enough that they will stop asking cuz ill give the same face response.

Say the manager yelled at you for talking to much and then just don't talk to him anymore. Tell him you can only talk after you clock out. If he wants to help people carry-out their groceries then let him. That is probably all he has going for him and probably gives him a sense of purpose.

Or just tell him that you find that question offensive and tell him to ask "How's everything going?" Sometimes people don't realize they're being annoying and it is ok to tell them. If no one tells them then they keep doing it.

You could also keep a pile of random stuff and whenever he starts talking to you hand him something and tell him to put it back on the shelf where it belongs.

Or tell the manager that you are done bagging and to give you more responsibility or else. Then spend all your time trying to find a better job.

Two ways I would deal :

One - shrug and say I’m doing alright each time, end conversation and don’t let it bother me.
Two - when he asks, grab his shoulders, look him straight in the eyes and whisper the entire truth of my current emotional being, when he starts to respond shush him and walk backwards slowly, Go about my shift not letting it bother me.

I’ve found people mainly want two things in social interactions, the truth or a polite lie. It takes a few moments out of my day to be verbal about it so it’s treated as something not really worth the hassle of stressing over. Also treat others the way you want to be treated man.

On the breaks, I always like to quote the state law about it as a joke.

On the taking groceries to car respond that you have it so they don’t need to and have already been with the customer thus far, and start walking them to their car.

On the chick, tell her she’s cray and that’s not how you were trained.

If you really can’t stress less about these small interactions, I suggest you seek a better fitting job.

Give him the wiggly finger to call him close and whisper "fuck off" in his ear. Problem solved.

"I'm more than all right, just ask your mother."

I worked with a simliar guy, he had autism and saw himself as some sort of captain of the department. I'd never be mean spirited to him but would always give some sort of witty push back that'd embarass him a little when he felt like flexing his imaginary muscle on someone. I felt mean doing it at first but I think it's really the best option, eventually he'll learn that douchey behavior doesn't get him what he wants and maybe he can grow from it. As opposed to humoring him all the time and helping him become an isolated tyrant.

The main thing is to not take anything personally and dont make anything personal
