Hey guys, weird question about collecting mycelium

Hello, I have spores on the way which is cool, but to pass the time I’ve been collecting what I suspect to be ovoid mycelium from sticks and debris near creeks. I will put pictures up of some of the better mycelium I’ve found, but I tried to pick the most Ropey and rhizomous mycelium I could find. I know this is a slow growing wood species, but I heard a lot of success with outdoor patches and maybe playing with colonization inside.
If I can get one of these sticks to fully colonize and live, I will consider it a success. I won’t know what type of shroom it is if it’s even a shroom, unless it fruits but I’m happy just experimenting. I’ll have agar in soon to hopefully cut some of the more ropey mycelum and try to isolate.
It was collected from flood plains with sticks/leaves and debris jammed up against trees, I noticed it liked areas just under the surface, not to wet but humid enough you could feel it when busting apart debris. I also found some cool sticks that had these tiiiiiny pins I mean like 1 mm that were translucent and shaped like fully formed mushrooms. Almost looked like trichomes so I brought those back to.

Why do you suspect it's ovoid mycelium? I think your chance of success without seeing ovoids fruiting directly from it is slim to none. The sheer number of mushroom species is staggering, I'm sure a good quantity of them have white mycelium. People usually seem to start their outdoor woodlovers by using spores from collected specimens or using the stem butts (the bit that gets all covered in dirt that no one wants to eat). They mix them up (some blend I think), and spray/distribute that water wherever the habitat seems right. I went from spores to grain and grain to woodchips which has worked quite well.
Your sticks do sound neat, I'm picturing something like witch's butter?

Hey man thanks for answering, I figured my luck would be slim but I’m pretty bored and want to grow SOMETHING haha. A few pieces actually look promising that it’s something good, especially the ropey ones I found in prime habitat. Lol I can dream. Anyways I picked up RR’s download on growing, pretty awesome. Anyways here’s a pic of that stick with a bunch of lil translucent mushies on it and some mycelium I think may be promising https://imgur.com/a/ydJKeH8
I actually may have found a strain of Mycena today, got exited and thought it was a lib but no cigar.

Those are pretty cool, they look related to bird's nest fungi.
One thing to do is to clone fresh oyster mushrooms from the grocery store, that way if you succeed you'll be getting something edible. Also if you want to learn agar it's a way to start before the spores get there, you'll probably learn what not to expect and hopefully what to expect.

I would toss that random myc you have. You have no idea what it is and you can't know how to fruit it.
If you want Ovoids, find some, then use the stem butts to colonize some cardboard. Colonize some wood from there, then spawn that to a proper bulk sub. IDK what the bulk would be, probably half-rotten sticks or mulch half-buried in some sort of soil or coir or something.

Definitely also this, though you aren't limited to cardboard. fresh wood chips are fantastic.
