anyone familiar with pinback?
the guitarist/vocalist, rob crow, is a genius.
if you like pinback, and havent heard rob crows other side projects, check out thingy, rob crow (solo stuff), and heavy vegetable.
im pretty amazed at how different all these bands are, yet you can tell they all come from rob crow.

Damn! It's like you all found my CD collection, and are talkin about all the obscure bands in it...
I Pinback. Top 10 bands making music today... I got Offcell when they played here in March, but I think Blue Screen Life still takes the cake.
I haven't heard any of his other solo stuff, but I've been dying to. I know both Rob and the bassist each have their other projects, and I'm anxious to hear them all. How would you describe the differences between each of his projects to Pinback?
5 's to you!

hahaha mine too.

i hate you for life...because i am so jealous you got to see them live!
heavy vegtable is very strange, im not sure i can get into it, but rob crows solo stuff is very good.
as for differences, heavy vegtable i feel is more punk influenced, and the songs are very very short, and not as intricatly compiled as pinback. still amazing, but not really my cup of tea.
here, i put up "the amazing underwater adventure of aqua kitty and friends" by heavy vegtable and rob crows unreleased tape box set on my ftp for all to download freely.

hmmm what heavy vegtable cd do you have?
the one i have(the amazing underwater adventure of aqua kitty and friends) the longest song on it is like 3 minutes, and most are around 2 several under 1 minute. songs like "couch" really show his punk influence coming through.
what is thingy? more rob crow i dont know about!!!!!??!??!??!

yeah man pinback means quite a bit to me; the first time i ever heard blue screen life (which was the first time i heard pinback) was the first time i tried mushrooms.
if i were to compare all the bands really really briefly: pinback - more chilled out, flowy music heavy vegetable - a little harder/faster than pinback, but still definitely rob crow thingy - i would say sort of like heavy vegetable, but with shorter songs rob crow solo - i cant really say too much because i have listened to his solo stuff the least out of any of these bands...but ill give the album a listen when i get home later and repost. three mile pilot - (armistead burwell smith IV's old band) a little more rockin than pinback, but you can DEFINITELY hear pinback in 3mp. the bass playing is very similar. also, if you like black heart procession, the singer from that band used to be in 3mp. so imo 3mp def. has a lot of elements that would soon turn into pinback and black heart procession.
it always makes me happy to hear about people liking pinback as much as me....they are an amazing band , and it always surprises me how many people dont know about them. but its kind of fun introducing them to my friends

I'm all over that... the more punk-ish stuff isn't as intriguing, but I am gonna give that a try too.

I've seen Rob Crowes new solo stuff here in San Diego...as well as every Pinback show that comes around. Definately some of the coolest stuff i've ever listened too. He is such a cool down to earth guy too.

thats awesome you live in sd - you must get the chance to see pinback quite often.
my goal right now is to tour with, or at least open up for, pinback...theyre some of my biggest musical influences, ever.

I have some photos that I took at a Pinback show and I'm drawing some crazy science fiction cartoons/illustrations from them and I'm going to give them to Rob at a show. He is totally into that stuff. He always talks about video games, comics and movies at shows. And the name Pinback is from that movie Darkstar, John Carpenters first movie...the character Srgt. Pinback.
