Snakeye's Cacti Sowing Questions!
    #25949516 -

I sowed some cacti seeds last year and they didnt do as well as I think they should have so I figured I'd make this thread ask a few questions to see where I went wrong and document my sowing.

My tricho did about 75% sastifaction and seem to be doing well but my loph and aricarpus came up but don't seem happy or died out on me.
I only have a few aricarpus left and two or three lophs.

One month after they were sown.
They will be a year old early June.

Propogator
I have Shoe box Totes I going to be sowing into.
Should I use the normal tote top?
Or should I have a cling wrap top?

Sowing meduim
I've been using 100% coir as my sowing medium for all cacti.
Should it be a mix of maybe 80% coir/20% perlite for trichocereus and other regular cacti?
For aricarpus or lorphora should it be 65% coir/35% perlite or crushed lavarock?

Watering
I had trouble with the coir drying out even without the heat mat.
Will placing a thin towel between the heat mat and shoe box help with drying out and still be efficient?
Can you bottom water carefully on the sides like you do mush substrates to rehydrate?
Can you carefully water areas that are dry with no seedlings?
Other wise a mist and some fresh air every month or so if it's doing well?

Lighting
Before I had a ferry morse seedling starting light bar from wally world.
I have a hlg 100 quantum board 3000k now.

Is this sufficient?
I was thinking maybe ten to twelve shoeboxs underneath.

I know these question a have been asked a million times but I really want to to do well this time.

Thanks!

Great questions man.  I'm :takingnotes:.
I water my seedling tray with a tea kettle with a long spout.  I've been gently soaking it
