Overlay? Need your help guys

Hi everybody! These containers have been in a terrarium (so to speak, I use a plastic wash basin) for a couple of weeks now. Two of them are doing ok, but others are not so well. I suspect an overlay (hope this isn't contamination after all). What should I do? Scrape it off with a fork or something? My main concern is that some areas of mycelium have pale grey colouring. What is causing this? Dead mycelium? Mould?

To avoid some questions - I used sterilized soil instead of perlite for the casing. Never had any issues with it whatsoever.

DISCOVER BLACK KOW
I swear that "black kow experiment" thread is gonna get it. It's tempting me to adress it. Sounds both pornografic and racist...

Throw out both of those containers. Looks like trichoderma or some kind of mold.

Thanks, guys. I guess I don't have any other options apart from throwing them away then.

You could burry them outside if its not very cold where you live right now, but even that could be a waste of time.

What? That isn't a peanut shell lol. It's a piece of expanded clay. I bought the soil in a store btw and sterilised it by myself. Maybe you don't know but you can successfully use soil as a casing. Finished a decent amount of cycles using this method.

I've used dirt in container/bottle style grows but that was sterile during colonization inside the containers.
When using soil as a casing you need to pasteurize the soil. Sterilizing the soil like you did leads to mold

Alright, maybe I used the wrong term. What I meant by 'sterilized soil' was that I put a jar with moist soil in it in a pressure cooker for an hour.

It's a bit outdated method, but it's been reliable for me and many other people for years. Sometimes you get contamination but usually, it works like charm. Check this video out. Fundamentally it doesn't matter what you put on top of mycelium - sterilized/pasteurized soil, perlite, or a mixture of perlite and peat moss.
