Ever had a plant in your tub?
    #25945914 - 04/20/19 03:31 PM (5 years, 8 months ago)

At first sight I though it was a contam, but I've never had one before first flush. Scared me a bit but then I looked closer and.......

.....not a contam.

Which is fantastic news! But how did the seed survive the cooker?

To say the least, I'm outright baffled.

The seed was in your bulk sub. Happens occasionally
Shouldn't cause any issues.

Lol I dunno. This is the shroomery not the plantery.

Just some random seed that got mixed up in the manufacturing.

I get that a lot.  I even bring my coir up to 160 degrees.  They don't hurt anything.

Either parts of the coir didn't reach sufficient pasteurization temperature or it got mixed in afterward, maybe from spilled seeds when prepping your spawn.

Not sure.  I spawn my tubs inside, and do my sub cooking in plastic square bottom bags In A crab cooker so they would have to be pretty sneaky to get in there.  I always figured they were in the coir and could live through the heat.  Funny thing is when it happens it’s only one sprout.  And if seen it often.

Myc breaks down nutrients, aerates substrate, and plants thrive in those conditions. Plus, it isn't like coir is bagged or bricked in a lab.
