agar and the way myc grows once used to a certain recipe then changing it & other growth 1

Ok so a buddy told me my agar is like concrete Haha... I was using roughly 16 to 18 grams agar powder with 9 to 12 grams malt ... well I say after about 20 transfers or so from spore I changed to 13 or so grams agar and 13 nutes 1000ml .. softened it up a little I dont have any doing it at the moment but some plates thr myc looks as though it was digging into the agar the after a few days will break out and grow as normal.. here are some pics of the plates I have I have 1/4" holes on my pasty with 2 layers tape so it gets alot of air my agar pucks will often dry out after sitting a week or so after transfer..
These I did some hot pours on cause they looked a little funky to my eye it's barely breaking through now been I'd say 4 days ..
I know there are tons of threads on agar and how does my myc look, this one is to show examples of different shit and discuss what we feel things are as of today.. do you guys think changing the agar from hard to soft will affect the way the myc grows on changing the nutes ? It goes with the same changing your Ingredients from time to time ..
Also some of those plates will be super funky looking and I'll have 2 more that came from the same transfer plate that are really nice what would be the issues with that ? Sometimes I dont cool off the blade and cut a piece of myc do you think the sizzle of the blade weakens the myc enough to start looking so ugly?
Ok found one where it was like digging in this one looks really bad in my opinion but I have had ones come back to looking normal
Some healthy penis envy myc ms to agar say t20 or more I dont label with Ms

I'm wondering if I have mites look at the small holes I get them alot and I'll have plates with big almost like air bubbles that the myc looks funky
Here is that same culture without those small divets
Here is one with one of those big bubble type divets and the myc also that was another one that was digging into the myc at first transfer ... but came off a descent looking plate .. but I will say when I got this it was looking funny to begin with
Here is some obvious bacteria maybe yeast? But another divet with the myc being super off from a plate that was way better looking

I've never seen myc "dig into" the agar like that before. I'd guess that there was a bacterial problem there but didn't look close enough and don't have time at the moment. I just like the thread idea and wanted to drop in.

Here's a neat thread on different amounts of agar/nutes. I'm still pretty new with agar (only like 6-7 months with it lol) and I feel like every time I try to diagnose shit with agar someone comes the post after mine and says "Well actually this looks the opposite" and then like 2 people agree with that person over me.
I'm not saying I don't know anything, but I guess I'm terrible at diagnosing myc on agar
My current recipe is:
I like it, it does great in a drop, and I get decent growth speeds. I should probably start posting more pictures of my shit though just to get input.

Yeah I had seen that it's a good thread I know recipes have alot to do with the way myc looks but there are so many variables in myc growth and how it should look and what it looks like just from you not mixing your agar right ...
Another thing I'd like to add is would malt and agar have shelf life ? I dont see anything stating but my shit was sitting in mason jars for almost 18 months ... I mean like I said some plates look good and others dont .. but will be cut off the same plate ..
Also I'm cooking for 25 minutes at 18 psi so I know that the plates are being well cooked .. I ordered 180 new type of deli containers and will be changing from glad minis to those..
Another thing I use to only run a screw size hole in my lids but drillesthese new ones out to 1/4" so the myc def looks different just from the added ge/fae ..

I pour petris because PCing my plates every time I want to use them sounds tedious AF and I don't make enough, so I'm no help there.
As for shelf life... I've started to notice that my LME has gotten clumpy. I actually decided to just replace it recently when I needed to order some new replies. I'd be curious to see what the shelf life is for those too. I didn't have it for that long, I'm more thinking maybe I didn't seal it well enough when I closed it.

Malt extract just clumps like that. It's still fine to use though.
I've pretty much always used standard MEA - 2% each malt extract (I use extra light but whatever) and agar. I've tried plenty of other stuff, but I always go back to MEA for clarity and ease of prep.

Mine does this too! I think it's bacterial because I just grew out a test shoebox and it came up bacterial.

Yeah that one is pretty funky ...something must of got on during a transfer .. I think the culture is fucked... I am going to run different agar recipes and show how the growth reacts I just am trying to catch up on some things

25min @ 18psi? Shit im way off. I was doing 60min @ 15psi. I been using some kinda seaweed solutions premix MEA powder. 2 cups water to 25 grams powder. Somehow it comes out different every time.
Never seen the myc dig in like that. Seen it grow under a bubble or two. Kinda looks like when spores are starting to form myc. Like it gets bumpy at first. Has kinda the same "texture".
Sometimes i get a halo of almost non growth clostly surrounding the transfered wedge. After a while it will slowly fill in. I place my wedges myc-side down on the agar. i dnt knw if that makes a difference.
On a slightly different note: It seems that myc in my dishes and spawn jars does more growing during lights off than on. Anybody else notice anything like this?

Most agar is a seaweed extract its vegan jello Haha... the little halo is usually just uncolonized myc ..
I'm starting to think the ones that are digging in is bacterial but still not sure cause like I said in a few days most of them look good again ...
And I have noticed that it grows in dark as well but have seen it grow just as fast in the day .
You're cooking a long time .. what do you mean it comes out different ? Here are kinks to what I buy for agar it's way cheaper then anywhere else

That looks like it was shaken if so when?
The depth of the pour can mess with how mycelium interacts with the agar.
18 gs agar to 10 g malt holy fuck dude.
I do 3.8g agar 7gram lme to 415ml~ of water.
I may of missed it but how old is this culture. I'd just keep transferrin if it's newer.
